Delegation of Vietnam Journalists Association visited and held talks with Thai Journalists Association

At the meeting held on the afternoon of November 21, the two sides exchanged information on the press situation and activities of the Journalists Association of each country in recent times; reviewed the implementation of the memorandum of understanding signed between the two sides in 2016; and agreed on the cooperation contents that the two sides will sign in the coming time.

Speaking at the meeting, journalist Nguyen Duc Loi said: In the general situation of the world press, the Vietnamese press has recently been facing great pressure due to declining revenue, fierce competition with social networking platforms and cross-border media corporations; and changes in the public's need for information.

Journalist Nguyen Duc Loi highly appreciated the visit to Vietnam by Mr. Chavarong Limpattamapanee, Chairman of the National Press Council of Thailand and a delegation of Thai journalists in July 2023. At the same time, he affirmed that the exchanges and visits of press delegations between the two countries have contributed to strengthening and further affirming the good cooperative and friendly relationship between the Vietnamese and Thai press over the past 30 years.

Journalist Nguyen Duc Loi suggested that the two sides should continue to conduct high-level visits between leaders of the two Associations, increase information exchange so that the two Journalists Associations can act as an active bridge to encourage Journalists Associations and press agencies that are their member organizations to increase cooperation in exchanging press delegations, supporting each other, contributing to the common progress in information exchange between the two countries.

When there are important events in Vietnam and Thailand, the two sides can send delegations of reporters to visit and report on those events. The two sides also need to strengthen cooperation in training to improve the professional skills of Vietnamese and Thai journalists; and exchange and share experiences in the process of digital transformation of journalism.

The Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association invited the leaders of the Thai Journalists Association to visit and work in Vietnam in 2024; proposed that the Thai Journalists Association re-sign the memorandum of understanding between the two sides in 2024, on the basis of adding some contents suitable for the present compared to the agreement signed in 2016.

He said that the Vietnam Journalists Association will organize an international ASEAN press conference in Hanoi from December 6 to 9, 2023. Journalist Nguyen Duc Loi invited the Journalists Association and the National Press Council of Thailand to attend.

Mr. Chavarong Limpattamapanee, Chairman of the National Press Council of Thailand, affirmed: The Journalists Association and the National Press Council of Thailand are pleased to welcome the delegation of the Vietnam Journalists Association to visit on this occasion. The relationship between the Vietnam and Thailand Journalists Associations is a special cooperative relationship because it has been maintained and developed over the past 30 years. The suggestions of journalist Nguyen Duc Loi are also the wishes of the leaders of the Journalists Association and the National Press Council of Thailand.

Mr. Chavarong Limpattamapanee suggested that the two sides soon sign a new Cooperation Agreement online and will exchange the agreement in 2024 when the delegation of the Journalists Association and the National Press Council of Thailand visits and works in Vietnam.

According to the working program, the delegation of the Vietnam Journalists Association will visit and learn about the activities of a number of press agencies and localities in Thailand.
