The most impressive performance today was that of the girls of the sepak takraw team. In the semi-final match of the 4-women sepak takraw event of the 19th Asian Games taking place this afternoon, October 3, the Vietnamese team easily defeated the host China with a score of 2-0 to enter the final match to compete for the gold medal with the Indonesian women's team tomorrow morning, October 4.

This victory helped the Vietnamese girls secure the silver medal in the 4-women team event. Previously in the group stage, the Vietnamese women's team met Myanmar, Japan and Indonesia (the teams played a round robin to select the top 2 teams to enter the semi-finals). The Vietnamese women's team won 2-0 against Myanmar and Japan, thereby securing a ticket to the semi-finals. In the match to decide the top spot in the group with Indonesia this morning, the Vietnamese girls won a dramatic 2-1 (21-19, 19-21, 21-19) victory to enter the semi-finals as the top team.
In Boxing, boxer Luu Diem Quynh could not create a surprise when she lost 0-5 to home boxer Li Qian in the semi-final of the women's -75kg category. By stopping in the semi-finals, Diem Quynh won a bronze medal. This is the first medal of Vietnamese Boxing and also the 14th bronze medal of the Vietnamese Sports Delegation at the 19th Asian Games.

Meanwhile, in the women's singles badminton event, Nguyen Thuy Linh easily defeated her Pakistani opponent - Shahzad Mahoor with a score of 2-0 (21-7, 21-10) to enter the second round. Meanwhile, Vu Thi Anh Thu suffered a quick defeat of 0-2 (21-10, 21-13) against Malaysian female tennis player ranked 33rd in the world Goh Jin Wei. The remaining representative, tennis player Nguyen Hai Dang, almost defeated world champion from Thailand Kunlavut Vitidsarn. The Vietnamese tennis player unexpectedly won 21-17 in the first set and caused a lot of difficulties for her opponent in the next 2 sets. Although losing 18-21 and 15-21, the Vietnamese tennis player's efforts are very commendable.
This was also a day of great effort for the Vietnamese rowers in the Canoeing event. Nguyen Thi Huong finished the women's 200m Canoe Speed event in 5th place with a time of 49 seconds 621. Meanwhile, the Hong Quan/Hien Nam pair finished the men's 1000m Canoe Speed event in a modest 5th place with a time of 3 minutes 58 seconds 596. In the 4-women 500m kayak event, the Vietnamese girls only finished in 6th place out of 8 finalists with a time of 1 minute 49 seconds 703. The Vietnamese Soft Tennis team also did not compete successfully in the women's team event when they were eliminated early after defeats against Japan, China, Mongolia and India.
On the first day of the cycling event, racer Nguyen Thi Thu Mai failed to create a surprise in the final of the women's individual time trial road cycling event. Thu Mai finished with a time of 26 minutes 49 seconds 37, ranking 8th out of 14 athletes. In the men's event, Quang Van Cuong ranked 14th.
In the individual chess event, Nguyen Thanh Bao won against his Singaporean opponent in round 1, Lai Ly Huynh tied with the top candidate for the gold medal - Trinh Duy Dong (China), while Nguyen Hoang Yen tied with his opponent from Da Bac Trung Hoa and Nguyen Thi Phi Liem lost to a Malaysian player. In chess, the Vietnamese men's and women's teams both won with a score of 3.5 - 0.5 in round 5 of the team event against Kyrgystan and Indonesia, respectively. In this event, the teams competed in 9 ranking rounds.
With another bronze medal, the Vietnamese Sports Delegation has 1 gold medal, 3 silver medals and 14 bronze medals, temporarily ranking 19th on the overall rankings as of 9:00 p.m. tonight, October 3. Leading is host China (161 gold medals), while Japan (33 gold medals) is in second place, and South Korea (32 gold medals) is temporarily in third place.
