Workshop on "Sustainable development and green transformation in industrial production".

Within the framework of the first Autumn Fair - 2025 at the Vietnam Exhibition Center (VEC), on the morning of October 28, the Department of Innovation, Green Transformation and Industrial Promotion ( Ministry of Industry and Trade ) organized a workshop on "Sustainable development and green transformation in industrial production".

Speaking at the workshop, Ms. Nguyen Thi Lam Giang, Director of the Department of Innovation, Green Transformation and Industrial Promotion, said that the workshop was organized within the framework of the national trade promotion event series "The First Autumn Fair - 2025" chaired by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, taking place at VEC, Dong Anh, Hanoi city.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Lam Giang, the year 2025 will face challenges from global economic fluctuations and tariff policies, requiring accelerated disbursement of public investment capital, boosting production and exports and improving the business environment to achieve high growth targets.

In that general achievement, there is an important contribution of industrial promotion work, notably trade promotion activities that have provided timely support to rural enterprises and industrial establishments to overcome difficulties, promote production and business activities and develop the market.

"However, in the context of globalization and deep integration, Green transformation and sustainable development have become urgent requirements. Industries must innovate technology, move towards cleaner production and apply circular economy," Ms. Nguyen Thi Lam Giang emphasized.

Recognizing the important role of innovation and green transformation, the Department of Innovation, Green Transformation and Industrial Promotion organized a workshop with the desire to introduce policies, exchange and share experiences on sustainable development and green transformation in industries; introduce models, technological solutions, cleaner production and circular economy. From there, propose solutions to promote green transformation in industrial production.

At the workshop, Mr. Hoang Manh Cuong, Deputy General Director of Bao Minh Industrial Park Infrastructure Investment Joint Stock Company, presented a speech with the topic: "Bao Minh Industrial Park: Step by step innovation of technology and digital transformation to promote green production in the textile and dyeing industry".

According to Mr. Hoang Manh Cuong, Bao Minh Industrial Park aims at 4 main groups of solutions including: Completing the digital environmental management system, applying automatic monitoring and real-time data retrieval; developing a model of industrial symbiosis and circular economy, optimizing resources; establishing the "Bao Minh Green" Fund to finance green initiatives and technological innovation of enterprises in the park; building a greenhouse gas emission inventory plan towards Carbon Neutral certification for the entire park.

At the workshop, representatives of Bao Minh Industrial Park made a number of proposals and recommendations, including issuing a separate Decree on green industrial parks with clear criteria on water reuse, renewable energy, green tree ratio, industrial symbiosis, etc. Recognizing the industrial park investor as a regional environmental management unit with corresponding rights and responsibilities.

Develop a set of ESG (environmental, social and governance) indicators for industrial zones, including water reuse rate, CO2 emissions, renewable energy, green coverage, ESG score. Industrial zones that achieve high levels will be ranked nationally, enjoy tax incentives, land and investment promotion, etc.

Promoting energy-saving solutions for industry

Also at the workshop, Mr. Kasuya Tomotoshi, senior technical expert of Toshiba Vietnam, presented a paper on the topic "Advanced mechanical technology for energy efficiency and sustainable development in industry - Solutions and future orientation of Toshiba".

Accordingly, since the Paris Agreement was signed in 2015, most countries, including Japan, have committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. The Japanese government has legislated energy-saving policies nationwide. In particular, the electric motor industry is identified as one of the largest electricity-consuming sectors, so it must apply the IE3 (high efficiency) energy efficiency standard.

The two main groups responsible for implementation are motor manufacturers and importers, who are required to report annually to the Japanese Government on progress and implementation results.

Mr. Kasuya Tomotoshi said that Japan has proposed 4 pillars of action to achieve the goal of carbon neutrality including: Increasing the use of renewable energy; reducing energy in production and operation; offsetting carbon emissions through absorption and recycling solutions. In addition, Toshiba focuses heavily on energy reduction, through research and supply of high-performance motor lines, helping businesses save electricity and reduce CO2 emissions during operation.

Providing more information on the potential for energy savings, a senior expert from Toshiba Vietnam said that according to statistics, motors account for 55% of industrial electricity consumption, but only about 25% of motors are currently used with inverters. In particular, in areas such as industrial pumps and fans, the application rate of inverters is only 22.7%. Thus, the remaining 75% is a huge space for businesses to deploy, contributing to increasing energy efficiency and reducing emissions.

"Through our efforts over the years, Toshiba has always aimed for a green planet through the development, production and supply of high-performance motor solutions, making practical contributions to the goal of saving energy and reducing global emissions," emphasized Mr. Kasuya Tomotoshi.
