Unique International Contemporary Dance Festival

On the evening of November 5th, the International Contemporary Dance Festival (X POSITION 'O' 2023) took place at the Hoa Binh Theater in District 10, Ho Chi Minh City.

The festival is an artistic event celebrating the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Singapore, co-organized by Saigon Contemporary and Ballet Dance Company - SCBC, in collaboration with Odysseys Theatre Singapore and Bong Sen National Folk Music and Dance Theatre.

The festival includes a series of unique activities and events showcasing contemporary dance art with four nights of performances in Singapore, Hoi An, and Ho Chi Minh City. During the Ho Chi Minh City performance, X POSITION 'O' 2023 presented the audience with a sophisticated and artistically rich overall picture, demonstrating the harmony between contemporary dance and traditional folk dance with two outstanding works: Silence Of Solitude and Yen Lam.

Among them, Yen Lam is a contemporary folk dance performance that symbolizes a journey of preserving cultural roots and integrating with the modern world. It revolves around a family story, vividly portraying a comprehensive picture of the spiritual life and cultural values of the people of Southern Vietnam. The dance piece is deeply rooted in folk traditions through its music , costumes, and traditional dance techniques, all harmoniously blended with contemporary influences.

Besides the artistic performances, the art space of X POSITION 'O' 2023 also features exhibition areas and interactive spaces with artists for audiences who love contemporary dance.

Representing SCBC Vietnam, director Dao Minh Vu shared: “The X POSITION 'O' 2023 International Contemporary Dance Festival aims to offer audiences high-quality performances that promote international cultural exchange. This year's festival features performances and exchanges by renowned dance artists such as: Danny Tan - Artistic Director of Odyssey Dance Theatre; choreographer Huynh Doan Trinh - Bong Sen National Folk Music and Dance Theatre; choreographer Ha Thanh Hau; and dancer-choreographer Do Hai Anh, Creative Director of SCBC Vietnam.”

Following its performance in Ho Chi Minh City, the X POSITION 'O' 2023 festival will continue to expand in scope and scale with the participation of over 40 international art companies and 550 artists. The festival will continue its international tours and cultural exchanges in many countries and territories around the world such as Germany, Italy, South Korea, Taiwan (China), Thailand, Singapore, etc.
