All efforts are being made to complete the 500kV Lao Cai - Vinh Yen transmission line project before National Day September 2nd.

In the heroic atmosphere towards the 80th anniversary of the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, at the construction site of the 500kV Lao Cai - Vinh Yen transmission line, thousands of cadres, engineers and workers are working day and night "overcoming the sun and rain", speeding up construction with the highest determination to complete this key project on schedule.

90% of the work is done - racing every day for the remaining 10%

At position 404 - one of the most complicated construction sites of the project, Mr. Nguyen Huu Nam, representative of Power Project Management Board 1 (under EVN), said: "We are standing at the 98m high double pole, weighing up to 330 tons. Up to now, the overall progress has reached about 90%, the wire pulling work is completed in 3 sections, continuing to push forward the next 8 sections out of a total of 26".

Mr. Nam said he is in charge of the 9HH package, stretching from VT381 to VT428 with a total of 48 pole positions. Up to now, 43 positions have been completed, the remaining 5 positions on the mountain are starting to be erected. The construction teams are divided into shifts from 5am to 10pm, eating and sleeping right at the mountain camp, overcoming the difficult terrain and harsh conditions to keep up with the progress.

“We have mobilized additional support forces to increase manpower, speed up the progress of pulling the wires and erecting the remaining poles. The goal is to basically complete the entire volume in time for the National Day holiday, that is the order and pride of our brothers,” Mr. Nam emphasized.

Momentum from the construction site: "We will not rest, we will not slow down!"

In the same package 9HH, Mr. Doan Xuan Manh, Head of the Electrical Project Department of Power Construction Joint Stock Company 1 (PC1), shared: “We have completed the erection of poles at 38/48 locations, and are currently working on the remaining 10 locations. The wire pulling work has been completed at 2 anchor intervals, and the next 7 intervals are being constructed. From now until August 19, we will close the berm and complete the optical cable circuit.”

Mr. Manh admitted that the hot weather that has lasted for a long time has significantly affected the progress: “It was too hot at noon and difficult to pull the wire at night because the angle could not be determined. But we have adjusted the construction organization, working from early morning to late at night to compensate.”

Site clearance - one of the major bottlenecks - is also being dealt with vigorously. Mr. Vu Cong Doanh, who has been at the construction site since December 2024, shared that initially there were locations that took 4 hours to reach on foot: "There are locations where the pillars are located on the top of the mountain, on rock foundations, and new roads must be opened to bring the crane up - very costly and difficult. But we are determined not to let any difficulties hinder the progress."

According to Mr. Doanh, people in the project area are generally cooperative, but there are still situations that require re-measuring the boundaries or further explanation of the compensation policy. “We work closely with local authorities to resolve the issue immediately, avoiding prolonged backlogs that affect progress,” he said.

Notably, during peak times, the project also received direct support from the military. In the Lo River area, there were 200 officers and soldiers - of which 100 directly participated in supporting construction in dangerous high mountain locations. The local youth union also actively contributed, especially in Dai Dinh commune.

Workers install wire fixing equipment at a height of several dozen meters, the final step before energizing.

Song Da 5 - Lightning-fast construction of package number 10

At package 10, Mr. Ung Vu Thanh, Deputy General Director of Song Da 5 Joint Stock Company, said: “We are in charge of 42 locations, with a total route length of nearly 19 km. Up to now, we have completed the erection of all 42/42 poles, completed the wire pulling at 21 locations and are pulling the wire at the remaining 9 locations.”

Package 10 faced many challenges in terms of terrain and weather - 2 out of 5 months of construction fell in the rainy season, causing the foundation construction, pole erection and wire pulling to be interrupted many times. However, according to Mr. Thanh, the unit has flexibly rearranged the construction team, brought large-sized machinery to the line, and deployed pneumatic blasting technology - safe and environmentally friendly - to process the rock foundation faster and more effectively.

“At the peak, more than 300 Song Da 5 staff and workers were present at the construction site. Currently, more than 200 people are still working continuously day and night. The workers' lives are well taken care of, with a unit providing meals and setting up camps on-site to serve overtime,” he said.

Construction safety is a top priority. All positions are fully equipped with labor protection, safety belts, signs, and are regularly supervised by the safety committee. “With the spirit of speedy construction, we are committed to completing the entire package No. 10 before September 2, as the target set from the beginning,” Mr. Thanh affirmed.

The investors EVN - represented by Power Project Management Board 1 (EVNPMB1) and the main contractor (Song Da 5) always closely coordinate and speed up the project's construction progress.

The 500kV Lao Cai - Vinh Yen transmission line project with a total length of 252 km, which started construction in early March 2025, is one of the largest power transmission infrastructure projects in the North at present. When completed, the project will connect the Northwest power system with the national grid, ensuring the ability to transmit power from hydropower plants and renewable energy, while enhancing regional energy security.

In the sacred moment leading up to the National Day, each meter of wire and each electric pole erected is an affirmation of the spirit of selfless labor and the will to "dare to think - dare to do - dare to take responsibility" of hundreds of people on the front line. They are turning the expectations of the Party, the State and the people into reality right at the time when the whole country is jubilantly celebrating the 80th anniversary of independence.

“We consider this not only a task, but also a great honor. With the spirit of not backing down in the face of difficulties, all officers and workers of the project are committed to completing the project on schedule, safely and with quality to celebrate the great national holiday,” Mr. Nguyen Huu Nam affirmed.
