Mr. Do Quang Khai, Deputy Director of Power Project Management Board 1, and Director of the Executive Board of the Lao Cai - Vinh Yen 500kV Transmission Line Project, said that up to now, contractors have completed 236 column foundations, and 156 locations are under construction. It is expected that by early June, all concrete foundations along the entire line will be completed - an important turning point to move to the column erection and wire pulling phase.
Without waiting for the entire foundation to be completed, the Project Management Board has directed the simultaneous construction of many items. "Currently, 25 locations have completed the erection of columns, 36 locations are under construction; contractors are also speeding up the transportation of columns to the foundation locations to be ready for erection as soon as conditions permit," said Mr. Khai.
Compensation and site clearance - a common bottleneck for power transmission projects - have been basically resolved. In all four provinces where the line passes through (Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Phu Tho , Vinh Phuc), all 468 sites have been handed over. Yen Bai province alone has completed counting 86/90 sites, and is expected to complete compensation payments by early June, ensuring sufficient conditions for wire pulling.
The project was implemented at the right time when the North entered the rainy season, a period that always poses great risks for infrastructure construction. To cope, the Project Management Board requested contractors to proactively develop a rainy season construction plan, including solutions such as pumping water, temporary reinforcement, and using special vehicles to transport materials to the construction site. Construction and human safety continued to be given top priority; locations at risk of landslides were carefully assessed and accompanied by safe construction measures.

Steel columns "running ahead of schedule"
In addition to foundation construction, the production and supply of steel poles for this hundreds of kilometers long power line has also been significantly accelerated. Factories are running at full capacity to complete orders before the peak rainy season.
Mr. Vu Van Nam, Director of Electrical Construction and Trading Mechanical Joint Stock Company 4, said that the Company participated in 4 bidding packages, including 3 power line bidding packages (bidding packages 2, 4, 9) and bidding package 5 to expand the 500kV Vinh Yen station.
Up to this point, packages such as package 4 and 5 have been handed over. Package 2 has handed over 18/23 steel column positions; it is expected to be completed on June 5. Package 9 has handed over 18/22 positions; it is expected to be completed on June 5.
The company participated in a total of 82 steel column foundation positions and the extension of the 500kV Vinh Yen station with a total of about 8,500 tons of steel columns.
"We will deliver the last shipment on June 24, about 20-25 days ahead of schedule," Mr. Nam affirmed.
According to Mr. Nam, this is one of the new projects that EVN has put into use steel pipe columns, so the preparation of imported materials is very difficult. In addition, the progress requirements of the investor are also very strict, so the Company has mobilized all staff to work "3 shifts" to meet the project progress.
Representing another contractor who is undertaking 128 column foundation positions with a total weight of 14,500 tons, Mr. Nguyen Hong Thang, Deputy General Director of Viet Vuong Joint Stock Company, said that the company is speeding up the progress to hand over the steel columns for installation, especially when the rainy season is approaching. It is expected that all columns will be completed at the factory before June 20.

According to Mr. Thang, the Lao Cai - Vinh Yen 500kV transmission line project has a new feature that is combining both production and construction in the same package, thanks to which, the coordination between pole suppliers and construction and installation units becomes smoother, ensuring that poles are transferred directly to the foundation position as soon as they are completed, avoiding the situation of "foundation waiting for pole" or "pole waiting for foundation".
Mr. Thang affirmed that the company is implementing "3 shifts, 4 crews" production, operating 24/7 to meet progress requirements.
The Lao Cai - Vinh Yen 500kV transmission line project is a national key project that has been approved by the Prime Minister for investment policy, assigned EVN as the investor, and Power Project Management Board 1 as the investor representative. This is a 500kV double-circuit transmission line project with a total length of 229.5 km, with a total of 468 pole foundation locations. The project passes through 4 provinces including Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Phu Tho and Vinh Phuc , with the starting point being the Lao Cai 500kV station and the ending point being the Vinh Yen 500kV station. The project has a total investment of more than 7,410 billion VND.
