With the explosive development of technology, children have access to the internet, social networks and digital devices from a very early age. This is an opportunity for children to expand their knowledge, practice creative thinking and develop digital skills. However, children who have early access to digital technology can also be negatively affected by unhealthy information, obscene publications and are at risk of deviant behavior, so parents need to become trusted companions, helping their children know how to use digital devices safely and effectively.

According to research, many children today spend 6-10 hours a day using technology devices for entertainment, study, work and other needs. Digital technology helps children increase their connection to the virtual world without space limitations. This is also an environment that contains a useful academic data warehouse that effectively serves the search for learning materials.

At the same time, the internet makes it easy for children to access onlineeducational software. Talent search contests, knowledge competitions, and skills competitions via the internet are increasingly popular and attract many students to participate. Some social networking platforms have created video sharing projects with learning content, popularizing knowledge for many subjects, creating online learning and entertainment communities that attract thousands of students. Digital technology also makes it easier for students to use online platforms to find scholarship opportunities in many countries around the world.

Ms. Phan Lan Anh, Lien Bao Ward (Vinh Yen) said: “To serve my child’s learning needs, I have equipped him with a computer with internet connection and limited his use of digital devices to a maximum of 2 hours per day. I also guide him to watch videos and use online English learning software to help him memorize vocabulary better.”

Digital devices with internet connection bring many practical benefits, however, without the companionship and guidance of adults, children will not know how to select information, and will be easily influenced by bad and toxic information, obscene publications, and addicted to online games.

Mr. Le Duc Quang, Head of the Basic Department, College of Agricultural Mechanics (Binh Xuyen) said: “Digital technology facilitates students to access knowledge resources in the digital environment to effectively serve their learning, research documents, solve difficult exercises, learn foreign languages, do projects, graduation theses, learn communication skills, etc.

However, there is currently a situation where many students take advantage of artificial intelligence (AI) technology such as the GPT Chat platform to do homework instead of their teachers to deal with them. This situation, if prolonged, will make them lazy to think and slow in perception.

Some children show signs of game addiction, psychological disorders, only like to communicate with the virtual world, are afraid to talk to people around them, and are even influenced by obscene cultural products leading to deviant behaviors. Abuse of digital technology also increases the risk of children being scammed and bullied in the digital environment. To protect children in the online environment, it is necessary to have the role of scientific guidance and management and supervision of parents.

At the same time, I work with my child to build a reasonable schedule for studying, entertainment, and high school graduation exam preparation, pay attention to the content that my child accesses, guide my child on how to use the internet safely and responsibly; encourage my child to study online and use digital resources effectively.

Along with guiding my children to use digital devices properly, I always encourage them to participate in group activities, participate in cultural and artistic movements, physical education and sports, and talk regularly to help them develop their intelligence, emotions and psychology appropriate to their age."

The role of parents in accompanying and guiding their children when using the internet and digital devices is very important. Not only helping children orient themselves properly in using digital technology to serve their entertainment and effective learning needs, many parents also take advantage of digital applications to monitor their children's academic performance, scores, and manage their children's schedules scientifically and reasonably. At the same time, they actively coordinate with schools to teach their children useful skills such as communication skills, critical thinking, conflict resolution, teamwork, etc.
