Dong Nai: Focus on connecting the core among ethnic minorities

To strengthen the ranks of influential figures among ethnic minority communities, the province has implemented a series of supportive policies in recent times. This was affirmed by Mr. Nguyen Van Khang, Head of the Ethnic Affairs Committee of Dong Nai province, at the Conference to meet and commend influential figures among ethnic minority communities in Dong Nai province in 2024, held on December 17th. Soc Trang province identifies the direction and management of national target programs as a key priority to ensure consistency and early effectiveness of programs and projects, thereby contributing to the comprehensive and sustainable development of the province. The successful implementation of the tasks and targets set in the past period was thanks to the spirit of solidarity and high consensus from the ethnic minority people in the project area. On the morning of December 18, 2024, in Thai Nguyen province, the Central Steering Committee for National Target Programs organized a conference to evaluate the results of the implementation of the National Target Program for socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas for the period 2021-2030, Phase I: from 2021 to 2025 (National Target Program 1719) and propose the Program for the period 2026-2030 in the Northern region. Implementing Project 2 on Diversifying Livelihoods and Developing Poverty Reduction Models and Project 3 on Supporting Production Development and Improving Nutrition, under the National Target Program for Sustainable Poverty Reduction in 2024, Van Lang district has supported 11 development projects. Production and development of poverty reduction models have helped poor households, near-poor households, and newly-escaped-from-poverty households to have livelihoods, jobs, and strive to improve their lives. The conference commended and rewarded 54 influential figures, representing 206 influential figures among ethnic minority communities in Dong Nai province.

At the conference, Mr. Nguyen Van Khang, Head of the Ethnic Affairs Committee of Dong Nai province, said that the entire province has 206 individuals recognized as influential figures among ethnic minority communities. These individuals serve as bridges between nearly 200,000 ethnic minority people and the government at all levels in implementing patriotic emulation models and movements.

In 2024, influential figures among ethnic minority communities continued to play their roles and responsibilities in working with local Party committees and authorities to implement tasks related to economic development, cultural construction and development, and maintaining security and order. Among them, 54 outstanding individuals who made significant contributions to mobilizing and promoting the role of influential figures were selected for commendation and awards by the Provincial Ethnic Affairs Committee.

According to Nguyen Van Khang, Head of the Ethnic Affairs Committee of Dong Nai province, in recent times, to strengthen the bond between influential figures among ethnic minority communities, the province has implemented a series of supportive policies, such as: providing monthly support of 800,000 VND/person and health insurance cards for influential figures; visiting and giving gifts to village elders and active members of ethnic minority communities during holidays and Tet (Lunar New Year)...

At the recently concluded 4th Provincial Congress of Ethnic Minorities in 2024, one of the key tasks identified by the province for the coming period is to promote the role of influential figures, intellectuals, and scholars among ethnic minority communities.

Therefore, the Head of the Ethnic Affairs Committee of Dong Nai province, Nguyen Van Khang, hopes that the team of influential figures among ethnic minorities in the province will continue to dedicate their enthusiasm and efforts to actively encourage their people to strictly abide by the policies and guidelines of the Party and the State, especially policies and laws on ethnicity and religion; not to believe, listen to, or participate in illegal religious activities; to eliminate backward customs; and to encourage people to preserve their unique and distinctive languages, scripts, costumes, folk songs, and folk dances. At the same time, they should actively participate with Party committees and authorities at all levels in building and strengthening the political system at the grassroots level.

People of all ethnic groups in Dong Nai province unite and work together to build and develop their homeland into an increasingly prosperous and civilized place.
