Bustling atmosphere
On the afternoon of November 18, despite the heavy rain, many people in Ho Chi Minh City came to the Youth Cultural House (No. 4 Pham Ngoc Thach, Saigon Ward) to experience the Ca Mau crab culinary festival.
During the festival, people and tourists visit the exhibition area of models, images and unique symbols of Ca Mau.
The display area, introducing products made from crab, dried shrimp, whiteleg shrimp, dried fish, bird's nest, shrimp crackers, pork roll, etc. also attracts a large number of visitors.

According to the reporter’s records, most of the diners came to experience the processing area and introduce the special cuisine of Ca Mau. In particular, the booths displaying and processing live crabs were always full of customers.
Crabs are sold here at a wide range of prices. Large, unprocessed meat crabs are sold at many stalls for prices ranging from VND268,000 to over VND500,000 per kilogram. Meanwhile, unprocessed crabs cost from over VND300,000 to over VND600,000 per kilogram.
After processing, crab meat costs 650,000 VND/kg, while crab roe is sold for 750,000 VND/kg.

Customers can buy processed crab dishes or ask the seller to directly process the crab they just bought. Customers are also instructed by the seller, artisans, and chefs on how to process crabs deliciously and properly.
In addition to the number of customers buying live crabs to take home, the festival also attracts many people to enjoy the dishes on the spot. Dishes made from crabs such as: steamed crabs, boiled crabs, tamarind crabs… are chosen by many diners.

As the evening wore on, the number of people flocking to the Ca Mau Crab Food Festival grew, leaving many stalls full. Staff and chefs had to continuously prepare food to serve diners, while the dining area quickly filled up.
High purchasing power caused some crab stalls to sell out just a few hours after opening.

Sold more than 100kg of crab in 2 hours
Mr. Le Van Thang, owner of a crab stall at the festival, said: “Although this is only the first day of the festival, it has attracted a lot of people to experience it. Our stall also has a lot of people coming to buy crabs.
In just 2 hours, we sold out more than 100kg of crabs. To meet the demand of festival participants, we have to continuously transport live crabs.”

Living near the festival, Ms. Bich (40 years old) brought her whole family to experience it early. Ms. Bich's family chose to buy pre-processed crabs and enjoy them directly at the festival.
She said that compared to the market, the crabs at the festival are cheaper but of very good quality. She shared: “Ca Mau crabs have long been famous for their deliciousness. So when I heard about the culinary festival about this type of crab, my family took the opportunity to come and enjoy it.
We chose to buy crab and asked the chef to cook it directly for the experience. The crab was very delicious, the meat was firm, there was a lot of roe, and it was fragrant and fatty.
Taking advantage of his off-work time, Mr. Ly (born in 1993) also took his wife and two daughters to the festival to enjoy crab specialties. After the tour, he and his wife chose to buy boiled and steamed crabs for their two daughters.

He said: “My daughter loves eating crabs. So despite the heavy rain, my wife and I still took the two children to the festival to have fun and enjoy dishes made from Ca Mau crabs.
In addition to enjoying delicious crab dishes, my husband, I and the children also learned more about regional specialties.

Meanwhile, a girl named Que Huong (20 years old) said this was the first time she ate Ca Mau crab. When she heard about the Ca Mau crab festival, Huong and her friends came to experience and explore the bustling culinary space.
The girl said that compared to crab, Ca Mau crab has a different flavor. “I am very impressed with dishes made from Ca Mau crab. The crab meat is firm and very sweet. At the festival, I also learned how to properly prepare crab,” Huong shared.
Ca Mau Crab Food Festival takes place from November 18 to November 22.
At the festival, famous artisans and chefs from Ca Mau and Ho Chi Minh City will perform and introduce special dishes made from crabs and seafood from the river region.
Visitors to the festival will be able to try and be guided in preparing Ca Mau specialties.
