Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Tuyen Quang - three green gems of the Northern midlands and mountains are becoming the priority choice for those seeking pristine, peaceful, and above all, a green, slow, sustainable way of tourism , closely connected with nature and the soul of national culture.

Nature gives – Culture is preserved

It is no coincidence that visitors from far away to Ba Be Lake ( Bac Kan ) often choose to depart early in the morning. When the mist still lingers on the water surface, and the sound of oars gently echoes between the mountains and forests, Ba Be appears like a vivid ink painting.

As the largest natural freshwater lake in the North, Ba Be not only possesses a rare primeval forest ecosystem, but is also the cultural home of the Tay people with unique legends, festivals and stilt house architecture. Surrounding the lake are Ao Tien, Dau Dang waterfall, Puong cave, each place is a highlight in the wild picture of Bac Kan nature.

Meanwhile, Cao Bang, the land at the head of the country, brings visitors from gentle emotions to overwhelming. Ban Gioc Waterfall is one of the most beautiful and largest waterfalls in Southeast Asia, gushing white in the middle of the vast forest.

Not far from the waterfall is Nguom Ngao Cave, which has the most magical stalactite system in the North. In addition, Thang Hen Lake is blue all year round, and Mat Than Mountain with its unique natural round hole, creating a poetic Cao Bang that attracts young people to explore.

Tuyen Quang is a land rich in revolutionary tradition and stands out for its peaceful beauty. Na Hang - Lam Binh eco-tourism area is likened to "Ha Long in the middle of the jungle" with lakes, Khuoi Nhi waterfall, Song Long cave, special-use forests and villages of Dao, Tay, Pa Then people...

This is an ideal destination for those who love nature, love to explore, and seek a balance between relaxation and local experiences. My Lam mineral spring with its mineral-rich hot water source is where visitors come to heal both physically and mentally.

Spiritual tourism – A piece full of potential

Not only possessing magnificent nature, these three midland provinces are also places of long-standing spiritual beliefs and culture. Temples and pagodas are not only places of worship but also an inseparable part of the landscape and local identity.

In Bac Kan, right in the middle of Ba Be Lake, An Ma Temple lies quietly on a small island, a place to worship the loyal generals of the Mac Dynasty. Visitors often take a boat to the temple, both to pray for peace and to feel the sacred space between the waves and the green forest. Further away is Thach Long Pagoda, deep in a rocky cave in Cho Don District, with a mysterious beauty that attracts not only Buddhists but also those who love spiritual architecture.

In Cao Bang, Phat Tich Truc Lam Ban Gioc Pagoda was built on a high hilltop overlooking Ban Gioc waterfall, a highlight that is both spiritual and represents unique architecture on the border. With a design that harmonizes nature and Vietnamese Buddhist culture, the pagoda has become a particularly popular destination for international tourists.

Besides, the Pac Bo relic site where Uncle Ho lived and worked not only has historical value but is also a sacred, quiet space, with the appearance of a revolutionary "holy land".

Tuyen Quang is also the capital of the famous Mother Goddess temple system such as Ha temple, Thuong temple, Y La temple, which attracts tens of thousands of pilgrims every year.

Thanh Tuyen Festival, which is famous for its giant, colorful lantern models, actually originates from the folk belief of Mother Goddess worship, blending spiritual culture and folk festivals.

In addition, Mau Thuong Ngan Temple, Canh Xanh Temple or An Vinh Pagoda are all sacred spiritual places, closely associated with the identity and consciousness of Vietnamese people in the midlands.

Local Businesses – Keepers and Creators

A notable highlight in the journey of "greening" tourism in these three provinces is the pioneering role of private enterprises and local households in developing sustainable community and spiritual eco-tourism models.

In Bac Kan, the stilt houses in Pac Ngoi and Bo Lu villages (Ba Be district) have become symbols of community tourism. Without being concretized or modernized, the homestays here still retain the traditional houses, lifestyles and dishes. Tourists not only stay but also join the hosts in picking vegetables in the forest, rowing boats, listening to Then singing and enjoying warm corn wine by the fire.

In Cao Bang, the Saigon – Ban Gioc resort is a model worth learning when combining environmentally friendly architecture with cultural preservation activities: organizing folk festivals, performing traditional costumes, encouraging people to sell specialties and act as local tour guides. In addition, some homestay projects in Tra Linh Thang Hen lake are also emerging with the style of “rustic – clean – green”.

Tuyen Quang is not far behind with a series of small eco-homestays in Phu Lam commune where people grow medicinal herbs, fruit trees and organize health care experiences using traditional medicine. Along with that, many households around My Lam mineral spring have boldly invested in a resort model combined with a spa from natural mineral sources, this is a new direction with great potential.

Green direction for sustainable future

For midland provinces such as Cao Bang, Bac Kan, and Tuyen Quang to truly break through on the tourism map, a systematic and synchronous strategy is needed. Developing green tourism is not just about planting trees or preserving forests, but about sustainable thinking and action at every stage.

First of all, the connection infrastructure and digital communication need to be greatly improved, so that tourists can easily search, book services and access destination information. At the same time, it is necessary to train a force of "native tour guides", people who become lively and trustworthy cultural ambassadors.

In addition, provinces should develop a set of standards for eco-tourism, spiritual tourism, and community tourism to ensure consistent quality and avoid distorted commercialization. Effective models should be replicated by supporting preferential loans, tax reductions, prioritizing land and granting quick permits.

Finally, it is necessary to build a separate tourism brand for each locality: "Ba Be Lake - green legend", "Ban Gioc - majestic borderland", "My Lam - healing spring"... Short, emotional messages will contribute to positioning a clear image in the minds of tourists.

Traveling is not just a walk, but also a journey to nourish the soul. In an era when people are returning to find balance, identity and nature, Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Tuyen Quang are the gentle but profound answer.

Preserving forests, villages, and cultures is not only for today, but also for those three midland lands to truly become bright spots of green, unique, and more sustainable tourism in the future.
