Bringing gender equality into future teacher training: Respect, tolerance and fairness

(NLDO) - The seminar discussed how to integrate gender equality content into teacher training programs, clarifying new requirements in the 2021-2030 period.

On November 14, at Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, the Department of Higher Education - Ministry of Education and Training organized a seminar on "Including gender and gender equality content into the training program for college and university teachers - Implementing the national strategy on gender equality in the field of education and training for the period 2021 - 2030".

The seminar on gender equality attracted many managers and experts to attend.

Representatives of many management agencies, experts and leaders of teacher training institutions across the country attended the discussion. Delegates shared implementation practices, existing difficulties and proposed solutions to make gender and gender equality content an official and effective part of teacher training.

Prof. Dr. Huynh Van Son, Rector of Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, emphasized that equipping pedagogical students with knowledge and skills on gender equality is not only to supplement their professional capacity but also to form a future generation of citizens who know how to respect, tolerate and be fair. The school has built and integrated gender and gender equality content into the training program, and continues to research to perfect the most suitable and effective model when implementing the project.

At the seminar, experts and representatives of training institutions presented many papers revolving around integrating gender content into current programs, teaching methods and assessment tools.

The discussion focused on three main groups of issues: Roadmap for integrating content into teacher training programs; determining minimum competency standards for lecturers directly teaching related subjects; inspection and monitoring mechanisms to ensure implementation activities are carried out consistently and effectively.

Delegates agreed that incorporating gender and gender equality content into teacher training is an urgent requirement, contributing to creating the foundation for a safe, respectful and sustainable educational environment.
