Overview of the main arterial road in the East
The Lien Phuong road, with a total length of over 4.3 km, is one of the important traffic arteries in the eastern part of Ho Chi Minh City. This road is planned with a general width of approximately 30 meters, equivalent to 4-6 lanes, directly connecting the Cat Lai intersection (the junction of Vo Nguyen Giap and Mai Chi Tho roads) to Ring Road 2 (Vo Chi Cong road). The project aims to alleviate the increasing traffic pressure and promote inter-regional connectivity.
The final 660m bottleneck has been resolved.
For many years, the entire route remained incomplete due to obstacles in the final 660-meter section, connecting the Vo Nguyen Giap - Mai Chi Tho intersection to The Global City urban area. In October 2024, construction officially commenced on this section with a total investment of 260 billion VND, with Masterise Group as the investor.
The road section was designed with modern technical specifications, including a 60-meter wide roadbed, a design speed of 60 km/h, and a single axle load of 10 tons, meeting the needs of freight transport and pedestrian movement. The most important component, the bridge over the Muong Kinh canal, has also been completed.
Construction progress and completion time
According to the initial plan, the project was expected to open for technical traffic in early 2025. However, due to construction issues, the schedule has been adjusted. As of the end of October 2025, the project is in the final stages of completion and preparing for commissioning and handover to the city. The completion of the bridge over the Muong Kinh canal is a significant milestone, ensuring the entire route is connected synchronously as soon as possible.
Impact on regional infrastructure and economy
Once officially opened to traffic, the Lien Phuong road will create a complete connecting axis, bringing many socio-economic benefits:
- Reduce congestion: Share traffic flow with parallel routes such as the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway and Do Xuan Hop Road.
- Enhanced connectivity: Facilitating travel between the Ho Chi Minh City High-Tech Park and Phu Huu Port to the city center and vice versa.
- Travel time is reduced: Significantly decreasing travel time to the center of Ho Chi Minh City and, in the future, to Long Thanh International Airport.
