Through its member company FPT Consulting Japan, FPT Corporation and Japanese technology corporation SCSK have just announced plans to establish the COBOL PARK joint venture, focusing on addressing the growing challenges of maintaining and modernizing legacy systems, especially mainframe technology. Not only contributing to enhancing the adaptability and flexibility in business of Japanese enterprises, this joint venture is expected to contribute to the country's digital transformation program. COBOL PARK is expected to be established in March 2025, aiming to provide human resources and technology transformation solutions to promote modernization in various fields in Japan. The joint venture focuses on the 500 billion yen system transformation market of the Japanese financial industry. The new joint venture also demonstrates the commitment of FPT and SCSK to join hands to solve the problem of Japan's "Digital Cliff 2025". This is a problem used by the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) to refer to the obsolescence of IT systems in a number of fields and the shortage of technology resources in Japan. Specifically, IT systems that used to be the foundation of many important fields in Japan such as finance have become outdated. Meanwhile, the rapidly aging team of engineers using the COBOL programming language has created an urgent need to modernize these old technology platforms to ensure the continuity and sustainability of Japanese enterprises. COBOL PARK was established based on the successful cooperation between FPT and SCSK in providing IT services in the Asia-Pacific region since 2018. This joint venture will take advantage of SCSK's expertise and FPT's technological capabilities, global presence, and abundant human resources.
