(Dan Tri) - The two presidential candidates of the Democratic and Republican parties are campaigning hard in battleground states as some states have begun early voting in the presidential election.

According to the New York Times, as of the end of October 19, nearly 12 million voters in the US had voted early in the 2024 presidential election. They voted directly at polling stations or voted by mail. Of which, California and Georgia each had more than 1.2 million voters, Florida had more than 1.1 million voters. According to the Constitution, US citizens aged 18 and over can vote in elections. However, in elections, there is always a large number of people who do not want to vote, because they are not interested in politics or simply do not like the candidates. In fact, the presidential election in the US is conducted in parallel with the congressional election to choose members of the House of Representatives and the Senate. American voters do not directly elect the president, but they use the popular vote to decide the votes of the electors in the state. These electors then elect the president based on the popular vote in their state. Democrats have taken advantage of early voting options in recent elections, turning out millions of votes in the process. In 2020, a surge in voter turnout was seen as a key factor in President Joe Biden’s election. Many states made it easier to vote early because of the pandemic. However, over the past four years, several states have passed laws that make it harder for voters to vote early in this election. Among the states that have made changes to their early voting rules since 2020 are Georgia and North Carolina, both key battleground states. The power of early voting will be crucial to the campaigns of both former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris this year. In 2020, about 60% of Democrats and 32% of Republicans voted by mail, according to a study by MIT’s Election Data Science Lab. Despite Trump’s repeated claims that mail-in voting is rife with fraud, Republicans have made an effort to encourage early voting this election. In Pennsylvania, Republicans have pledged to spend more than $10 million to convince Republicans to vote by mail in November. But the state’s Democratic voter registration far outpaces that of Republicans.Dantri.com.vn
