Coffee price today 5/14/2025: Sudden sharp drop

In Vietnam, domestic coffee prices are currently heavily influenced by international trends, especially supplies from Brazil. Favorable weather in growing regions has helped coffee trees grow well, while abundant robusta output and the prospect of arabica recovery are making it difficult for coffee prices to stay high.

In addition, the robusta harvest in Brazil and Indonesia has begun, pushing more beans onto the market. Weather conditions in arabica growing regions are also improving, easing concerns about climate risks that had driven prices higher in April.

In addition to supply, the coffee market is also affected by slowing demand in the US and Europe. Roasters are temporarily holding back purchases as prices remain high. At the same time, the weakening of the Brazilian real in recent days has prompted Brazilian farmers to increase sales, thereby creating further downward pressure on the global coffee market.

World coffee prices today

Coffee prices on the world market increased slightly on two floors:

Robusta Coffee (London):

July 2025 delivery: Up 77 USD/ton, to 5,129 USD/ton.

Delivery September 2025: Up 80 USD/ton, to 5,093 USD/ton.

Arabica Coffee (New York):

July 2025 delivery: Up 5.5 cents/lb, to 378.45 cents/lb.

September 2025 delivery: Up 5.2 cents/lb, to 373.65 cents/lb.

Trade talks between the US and China have ended on a positive note as both sides agreed to sharply reduce tariffs on each other’s goods within 90 days. The US will lower import tariffs from 145% to 30%, while China will reduce tariffs from 125% to 10%. This move is expected to ease trade tensions between the world’s two largest economies.

In the commodity market, coffee prices rose slightly again. The main reason was that the USD index (DXY) decreased slightly after rising too strongly at the beginning of the week. In addition, the US consumer price index (CPI) for April was announced in line with expectations, showing no signs of inflation as feared, which also weakened the USD.

Additionally, forecasts of rising global coffee supplies are adding to the pressure on prices. According to the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), Honduras’ coffee production in 2025-2026 could increase by 5.1% compared to the previous crop year, reaching around 5.8 million bags.
