Coffee price today 5/27/2025: Keep prices low

The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) has just revised up its forecast for coffee production in 2025 to 55 million bags, up 2.3% from last month. Of which, Arabica coffee alone is expected to reach 37 million bags, up 3.5%. Notably, Brazil is approaching its largest robusta harvest ever.

Not only Brazil, Indonesia is also accelerating strongly with the goal of surpassing Vietnam to become the world's second largest coffee producer. Indonesia currently ranks fourth globally, after Brazil, Vietnam and Colombia, with an output of more than 700,000 tons per year. The country is boosting both its output and export strategy to expand its international market share.

Vietnam currently maintains its second position thanks to its large robusta growing area and stable output of about 1.8 million tons per year. However, facing competitive pressure from rising rivals, the domestic coffee industry is forecast to need strong innovation to maintain its position.

World coffee prices today

World coffee prices remain unchanged on two exchanges:

Robusta Coffee (London):

July 2025 delivery: Unchanged at $4,790/mt.

Delivery September 2025: Unchanged at $4,786/ton.

Arabica Coffee (New York):

July 2025 delivery: Unchanged at 361 cents/lb.

September 2025 delivery: Unchanged at 358.7 cents/lb.

Coffee trading will be suspended in New York and London for Memorial Day in the US and Spring Bank Holiday in the UK, but recent market developments have shown a negative trend.

Arabica coffee prices are at a five-week low, while robusta hit a six-week low. The main reason is a sharp increase in coffee inventories on the ICE Futures Exchange. As of the end of last week, robusta inventories reached an eight-month high of 5,438 lots, while arabica stocks also rose to 886,590 bags, a nearly four-month high.

Another factor weighing on prices is demand concerns. Several major companies, including Starbucks, Hershey and Mondelez International, have said that a 10% basic import tariff in the US could increase retail prices and reduce global demand for roasted coffee. This raises the risk that despite increased supply, the market will face downward pressure on prices due to slowing consumption.
