Accordingly, in 2025, Gia Lai province will continue to support Sekong province to deploy an improved rice intensive farming model on an area of 5 hectares, using pure rice variety BDR 57, the implementation period is from June to November 2025.
Sekong Province has about 11,604 hectares of rice cultivation land; farmers mainly sow and transplant rice seedlings manually. This method is labor-intensive and prolongs the planting time, affecting the growth and development of rice plants. Therefore, the average rice yield is only 41 quintals/ha.

To implement the model, Gia Lai Provincial Agricultural Extension Center has supported all rice varieties, fertilizers, pesticides and sent technical staff to Sekong province to guide and directly implement the model from land preparation, soaking, sowing, fertilizing, care, pest control and water regulation.
The model is implemented by direct sowing method with density of 80 kg/sao (500 m²); using row sowing tools, row spacing 16-18 cm; the operating capacity of the equipment reaches 0.2 ha/person/hour, which significantly shortens the sowing time, helping people reduce labor and production costs. At the same time, the growing time is shortened because it does not have to go through the green recovery stage but the rice plants still grow well.
According to Mr. Inpeny Vithamongsak - Director of Sekong Provincial Agricultural Extension Center, the change in rice cultivation methods has initially brought about clear results. Up to now, the rice plants have grown and developed evenly; blossomed simultaneously, which is very convenient for care and harvesting. The unit will continue to monitor to have a basis for evaluating the results, from which to develop a plan to propagate and replicate the model throughout the province.
