In Quynh Tam village, Chieng Sung commune, when mentioning Mr. Mao Van Tai, everyone admires his determination to get rich from the comprehensive economic model and the spirit of helping households in difficulty to develop the economy, being recognized as a good farmer and businessman at the provincial level. In 2008, Mr. Tai's family moved from Ca Nang village, Ca Nang commune, old Quynh Nhai district, to settle in Quynh Tam resettlement village, and was granted 1 hectare of land for production by the State. He actively learned from the experience of local people, planted hybrid corn, raised goats, and brought in a stable income.
Mr. Tai said: In 2019, my family invested more than 50 million VND to build a solid barn, to switch from raising free-range goats to keeping them in barns; actively participating in training courses organized by the Commune Farmers' Association, thanks to which the goat herd has grown more and more. Currently, the family maintains 20 breeding goats, giving birth to about 40-45 goats each year, earning more than 200 million VND/year. In addition, the family also intensively cultivates 1 hectare of sweet corn, hybrid corn and beans, earning an additional 150 million VND/year.
In Cao Son village, taking advantage of the flat terrain and fertile land, Trinh Thi Thanh's family invested in growing dragon fruit in an organic way. Ms. Thanh said: The family is currently growing 0.7 hectares of dragon fruit, Thai green-ear, purple-ear, lotus-bud varieties, cared for according to safe processes, fully recording fertilization and spraying; at the same time, investing in an irrigation system helps reduce labor and increase productivity. Each year, the family harvests more than 20 tons of fruit, with an average selling price of 20,000 VND/kg, after deducting expenses, earning a profit of about 300 million VND. In addition, the family also grows 0.5 hectares of vegetables, with an output of 8 tons/year, earning a profit of over 80 million VND, after deducting expenses.
These are two of many typical economic models of farmers in Chieng Sung commune. In the period of 2023-2024, the commune has 150 farmer members who are good at production and business at all levels; the average income of farmer members reaches nearly 45 million VND/person/year. With dynamism and creativity, many members have also established small and medium enterprises, or participated in founding cooperatives, contributing to strengthening links, expanding the scale and increasing the efficiency of rural agricultural production.
Accompanying members in economic development, from 2023 to present, the Chieng Sung Commune Farmers' Association has coordinated to organize 23 training courses on transferring production science and technology to over 3,000 members; coordinated to supply hundreds of tons of fertilizers with deferred payment to 80 members to develop production; organized for 53 farmer members to visit economic models in the province and outside the province; coordinated with credit institutions to lend over 7.9 billion VND to 218 poor members to develop production. Coordinated with the Provincial Farmers' Association to disburse 450 million VND from the Farmers' Support Fund to 11 households to borrow to implement the project of raising breeding cows in Hun village, Tong Tai A village; propagated and mobilized farmers to bring OCOP products, key products and specialties to e-commerce platforms.
Mr. Giang A Po, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Chieng Sung commune, said: Entering the new period of 2025-2030, the Association continues to promote the movement "Farmers compete in production, good business, unite to help each other get rich and reduce poverty sustainably", associated with structural transformation, economic development, income improvement, poverty reduction and social security. Strengthening activities to support farmers in both production methods and career orientation; linking production through guiding the construction of cooperative and cooperative models to produce agricultural products according to the value chain. Strive during the term to establish at least 2 new professional farmer associations and 1 professional farmer association or more. Every year, 85% of members register to strive to achieve the title of "Good farmer in production and business"; build and form models of growing organic dragon fruit, plum, longan, strawberry...
With many creative and effective methods, Chieng Sung farmers have achieved success in implementing economic models, bringing a full life and contributing to the development of their homeland.
