Regarding rice, during the slow trading week, domestic rice prices were relatively stable, some exported rice prices decreased at the beginning of the week, then increased slightly and remained stable in the middle and end of the week.

According to the update from the Department of Agriculture and Environment of An Giang province, currently, raw rice IR 504 fluctuates at 8,300 - 8,400 VND/kg; raw rice CL 555 fluctuates at 8,800 - 8,900 VND/kg; raw rice OM 380 fluctuates at 8,000 - 8,100 VND/kg; raw rice OM 18 fluctuates at 10,200 - 10,400 VND/kg; raw rice 5451 fluctuates at 9,600 - 9,750 VND/kg; finished rice OM 380 fluctuates at 8,800 - 9,000 VND/kg; finished rice IR 504 fluctuates at 9,500 - 9,700 VND/kg.

In the export market, Vietnam's rice export prices remained unchanged compared to the end of the week. According to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), currently 5% standard rice is at 397 USD/ton; 25% broken rice is at 368 USD/ton; 100% broken rice is at 321 USD/ton.

According to information from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and the Ministry of Industry and Trade, in the first 4 months of 2025, Vietnam exported more than 3.4 million tons of rice, reaching a turnover of 1.76 billion USD, up 8.1% in volume but down 13.3% in value compared to the same period in 2024. The reason is that the average export price decreased by about 20%, down to about 517 USD/ton.

In the first quarter of 2025, the Philippines remained Vietnam's largest rice consumer market with a market share of 42.1%. Ivory Coast and Ghana were the next two largest markets with market shares of 16.3% and 10.2%, respectively. The Vietnam Trade Office in the Philippines forecast that the Philippines' rice import demand in 2025 would remain high. In particular, Vietnam continued to be the Philippines' leading rice exporter. It is forecast that the country will import about 4.35 million tons of rice from Vietnam in 2025.

In April 2025, Vietnam's rice exports recorded a price recovery after a sharp decline at the beginning of the year, especially in the 5% broken rice segment. According to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), the current price of Vietnam's 5% broken rice has increased compared to the beginning of 2025 but is still at 397 USD/ton - lower than the same type of rice from Thailand by 9 USD/ton, but higher than India and Pakistan by 16 USD/ton and 8 USD/ton, respectively. However, the increase in Vietnam's rice export price in the coming time is still not really positive due to being influenced by market demand and supply.

Agricultural experts believe that in order to improve capacity and export value, domestic enterprises need to continue to proactively diversify markets, increase rice exports to new markets such as Europe, the US, Japan, the Middle East, West Asia, Africa, etc. At the same time, take advantage of free trade agreements to enjoy tariff incentives and conquer and increase rice exports to new markets.
