As of November 14, durian prices in Dong Thap province have increased sharply as growers begin the new harvest season. The main driving force is the high export demand to the Chinese market, especially for varieties that meet container standards.

Durian price developments in key regions
In Dong Thap, the harvest atmosphere is bustling. Ri6 durian is purchased by traders at the garden price of 60,000 - 65,000 VND/kg, an increase of nearly 10,000 VND/kg compared to last week. The Monthong variety, which is favored by the Chinese market, continues to hold its price above 70,000 VND/kg. With this price, farmers can earn an average profit of 15,000 - 20,000 VND/kg.
Meanwhile, the market in the Southwest, Southeast and Central Highlands was generally stable on November 12-13. The Central Highlands is still the region with the highest durian prices in the country, with the beautiful Thai variety being traded at 100,000 - 105,000 VND/kg. The price of beautiful Ri6 durian in other localities fluctuates between 50,000 - 90,000 VND/kg.

Market drivers
Import demand from China is considered the main factor supporting selling prices. Exporters said they are actively purchasing qualified Thai and Ri6 durian to meet year-end orders. This has created an upward trend in garden prices in Dong Thap and some western provinces.
In addition, the quality of this year's fruit is highly appreciated thanks to favorable weather, reduced rain and proper care procedures. The fruit set rate increased, the flesh was beautiful yellow and the sweetness was stable, helping durian maintain a good price during the period near the main season.
Market outlook
Dong Thap currently has more than 26,000 hectares of durian, with an estimated annual output of about 470,000 tons. When the peak harvest begins in about a month, abundant supplies will be brought to the market. Experts predict that durian prices are likely to continue to increase in the coming weeks if export demand from China remains stable as it is now.
Localities are also proactively implementing measures to reinforce embankments and prevent high tides to protect orchards from weather fluctuations, in order to minimize risks during the fruit development stage.
