Durian price assessment today April 26, 2025
Durian prices today, April 26, 2025, in the Western regions (Mekong Delta), the Eastern region and the Central Highlands recorded a slight downward trend, reflecting pressure from supply and strict export inspection requirements. The price level fluctuates from 25,000 - 135,000 VND/kg, depending on the type and region, with the Western region maintaining the highest price.
In the West, Ri6 durian prices range from VND25,000/kg (grade C) to VND65,000/kg (VIP), Thai durian is VND95,000 - 100,000/kg (VIP), and Musang King leads with VND120,000 - 135,000/kg (grade A). Local varieties such as Sau Huu (VND65,000 - 70,000/kg) and Chuong Bo (VND55,000 - 60,000/kg) have stable prices but are lower than the same period in 2024, due to limited off-season output and increased transportation costs. In the East, the price of Ri6 durian grade A is only 52,000 - 58,000 VND/kg, Thai durian grade A is 85,000 - 90,000 VND/kg, lower than in the West due to more abundant supply. In the Central Highlands, beautiful Ri6 durian is 62,000 - 65,000 VND/kg, while beautiful Thai durian is lower than in the West, only 77,000 - 80,000 VND/kg, reflecting the time near the end of the harvest.
The high-priced group (over VND80,000/kg) focuses on Thai durian and Musang King in the West, while Ri6 type A and local varieties are popular at VND50,000 - 70,000/kg in all three regions. The lowest price belongs to Ri6 type C (VND25,000 - 35,000/kg), mainly serving the domestic market. There was no noticeable price fluctuation compared to the previous session, indicating that the market is moving sideways.
The main reason for the price drop is that China has tightened quality control, especially on chemical residues, causing durian exports to fall by 83% in the first quarter of 2025. Off-season supply in the West is scarce, while the Central Highlands is almost out of season, putting pressure on prices of high-end varieties. Domestic demand is stable but not enough to compensate for the decline in exports. Solutions such as improving quality, tracing origin and signing a protocol for exporting frozen durian are expected to support the market in the future.
Durian price news today April 26, 2025
According to data from China Customs, in the first two months of 2025, Vietnam's total durian export value reached about 52.7 million USD, down 69% compared to the same period in 2024. Notably, exports to China recorded only 27 million USD, a serious decline of 83%.
Meanwhile, Thailand has surpassed China to account for 62.3% of the durian market share, up significantly from 36.9% the previous year. In contrast, Vietnam's market share has dropped sharply to 37%, from 61.7% in the same period in 2024.
The main reason is China's increased quality control, requiring all shipments to be certified as free of yellow O and cadmium. This regulation was implemented after yellow O residues were discovered in Thai durians in late 2024.
As a result, many containers of Vietnamese durian are stuck at the border, causing difficulties for businesses and farmers. High storage costs, along with the risk of damage to goods, are putting great pressure on the Vietnamese durian industry.
