According to Oilprice at 4:30 a.m., Brent oil price reached 66.91 USD/barrel, up 0.48%, while WTI oil stood at 63.17 USD/barrel, up 0.37%.
In April, the average price of crude oil in the market fell nearly 9%. WTI oil fell about 9.3%, while Brent oil fell 8.3%. Compared to the same period last year, crude oil prices have now fallen sharply, from 24% to nearly 25%.
Oil prices were supported by China’s temporary exemption from import tariffs on some US pharmaceuticals, Reuters reported, raising hopes of a possible easing of US-China trade tensions, although Beijing quickly dismissed President Trump’s claim that tariff talks were making progress.
However, experts say the outlook for oil prices to rise in the short term is not very optimistic. Mr. Ole Hansen from Saxo Bank said that trade tensions between major oil consuming countries will continue, while OPEC+ may accelerate its plan to increase production from June, making it difficult for oil prices to increase sharply.
In addition to pressure from supply, geopolitical developments are also starting to have an impact. Notably, the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump’s special envoy on April 25 was considered “constructive”. If the disagreement over Ukraine is narrowed, oil supplies from Russia to the international market could increase.
