The tournament contributes to promoting the sports movement among journalists; creating conditions for exchanges, meetings and strengthening mutual understanding and camaraderie among press agencies and radio stations in Ho Chi Minh City.

The tournament attracted the participation of 14 men's football teams (Ho Chi Minh City Television, VOH, VOV Alliance, SCTV, Vietnam News Agency, Tuoi Tre Newspaper, Sai Gon Giai Phong Newspaper, Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper, Life and Society Reporters Club, FPT Play, Saigon Economic Magazine, Zing News, Thanh Nien Newspaper, Ho Chi Minh City Law Newspaper); and 3 women's football teams (Ho Chi Minh City Law Newspaper, Sai Gon Giai Phong Newspaper and Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper), belonging to Ho Chi Minh City and Central press agencies with agencies and representative offices in the City.
In the opening match of the 2023 Ho Chi Minh City Journalists Association Football Tournament, Online Knowledge Magazine won against Thanh Nien Newspaper team.

In the remaining matches, the defending champion HTV Television Station won the Voice of Ho Chi Minh City Radio Station 3-1, the Voice of Vietnam Joint Forces crushed Saigontourist Cable Television (SCTV) 7-3, Vietnam News Agency won the Tuoi Tre Newspaper 4-1, Saigon Giai Phong Newspaper lost to Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper 0-3, and the Social Life Reporters Club lost to FPT Play Television 2-3.
The second round of the group stage will continue on June 27 at Tao Dan artificial turf field (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City).
