With over 2,000 athletes competing, the Hanoi Open Rapid Chess Championship is the largest amateur chess tournament ever. This tournament is jointly organized by the Vietnam Chess Federation, the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports , and the Future Grandmasters Club.
The players participating in the Hanoi Open Rapid Chess Tournament come from more than 100 chess clubs in Hanoi as well as from more than 20 provinces, cities and sectors including Ho Chi Minh City, Ba Ria - Vung Tau , Thua Thien Hue, Nghe An, Ninh Binh, Military, Hung Yen, Thai Nguyen, Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Tuyen Quang, Lang Son, Lao Cai, Thanh Hoa, Vinh Phuc, Lai Chau, Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Da Nang, Quang Binh, Quang Tri...

In particular, the tournament also had the participation of disabled athletes, competing with other normal athletes. The tournament also set a record for the number of referees participating in a chess tournament in Vietnam with 70 referees.
Players compete for 32 sets of medals in the age groups from U5 to U15 in the amateur category, U7 to U13 in the advanced category, as well as expanded content in the advanced and amateur categories... In these categories, the expanded content of the advanced category is for players who have achieved national and international achievements.
At the end of the tournament, the Organizing Committee awarded medals and prizes to the winning players. Notably, in the advanced open category, the duo Dinh Nho Kiet - Nguyen Vuong Tung Lam (VietChess) surpassed many other strong pairs to win the championship. The duo of the Hanoi team, International Grandmaster Tran Tuan Minh - Nguyen Nam Kiet (who just won the Silver Medal for the U12 individual category in the world standard chess category) ranked second.
This year's tournament continues to be 100% socialized in the organization stage, and is also considered a highlight in 2023 for the Hanoi Sports Training and Competition Center, Vietnamese chess as well as Hanoi.
