Teachers look forward to enjoying special salary coefficient

TPO - It is expected that from January 1, 2026, teachers at all levels will enjoy a special salary coefficient, of which preschool teachers will have the highest coefficient of 1.25, according to the Draft Decree regulating salary policy and allowance regime for teachers, which was just announced by the Ministry of Education and Training on November 2.

The draft also stipulates that teachers at other levels are entitled to a special salary coefficient of 1.15.

The implementation principle is that teachers will enjoy preferential vocational allowances, seniority allowances and other allowances according to the provisions of law.

Teachers transferred or seconded from one public educational institution to another are entitled to the allowances applicable to the educational institution to which the teacher is transferred or seconded.

In addition, the draft also adds a job responsibility allowance of 0.1 - 0.2 for teachers providing student counseling and deputy heads of professional groups; 0.3 for key teachers, group leaders, and teachers of ethnic minority languages; and occupational hazard allowance.

Ms. Le Thi Hien Hao, a teacher at Bach Duong Kindergarten ( Da Nang ), shared that she has been involved in the profession of raising preschool children for 22 years now. Every month, she receives a salary of about 14.1 million VND, including basic salary and classroom allowance.

“I am currently a Grade II, Level 7 teacher, and my salary was increased one level early because of my achievements in teaching. As for young teachers who have just graduated, their salaries are still very low, not enough to cover daily expenses,” Ms. Hao said.

According to Ms. Hao, the job of a preschool teacher is very hard. Every morning, at exactly 6:30, she has to be there to pick up the children. From then until all the children are returned to their parents, she and the teachers have to roll up their sleeves and work hard teaching the children to sing and dance, feeding them, cleaning up after children vomit, soothing crying children… Being a preschool teacher, it seems like there is no time left to take children to school every day.

Despite her hard work and meager salary, no matter how frugal she is, it is still not enough to cover the cost of raising her two children. “After many years of marriage, the whole family has lived in a level 4 house. Recently, thanks to the support of my grandparents, we were able to build a decent house,” she confided.

Low salary , teachers are not interested in the profession

What Ms. Hao worries about is that with low salaries, young teachers will not be interested in the profession. In fact, there are many people who love children and love teaching, but when they are faced with choosing a career, they hesitate and change their path.

Upon hearing the news that teachers would receive a salary increase, Ms. Hao shared her joy because despite the difficult circumstances, the team always receives the attention of the Party and the State. This will be a joy and motivation for teachers to love their jobs more, be dedicated to children, and be passionate about the path they have chosen.

Ms. Nguyen Thuy Dung, a teacher at Sao Mai Kindergarten (Hanoi), also said that she was very happy and moved to learn that the draft of the new Decree had provisions on a special salary coefficient for teachers, in which preschool teachers receive a salary of 1.25 times higher than the current salary coefficient.

This is a policy that clearly demonstrates the concern and sharing of the Party, State and education sector for those who are doing the work of "raising" - the first foundation of the national education system.

The work of preschool teachers has its own characteristics - both caring, nurturing, and organizing educational activities appropriate to the characteristics of the age. Every day, preschool teachers spend most of their time with children, from the smallest things such as feeding, sleeping, hygiene, to teaching children life skills, communication skills and early personality formation. It is a job that requires love, patience and a great sense of responsibility, but sometimes is not fully understood and recognized by society.

Therefore, when hearing the information that the State drafted a Decree to adjust the special salary coefficient of 1.25, the highest level compared to all levels of education, I felt the State's respect and recognition for the efforts and silent dedication of preschool teachers.

Although this adjustment cannot fully satisfy our material life expectations, it is a great source of spiritual encouragement, helping us love our job more and be more confident in our work.

Ms. Dung hopes that in the coming time, policies on salary, preferential allowances and other benefits will continue to be considered and adjusted to ensure the lives of teachers, especially in difficult areas. When teachers are fully cared for, they will wholeheartedly devote themselves and be creative in caring for and educating children.

For a long time, many teachers have believed that preschool teachers work the hardest, working 9-10 hours a day, but the salary of preschool teachers is ranked the lowest compared to other teaching positions and almost the lowest compared to civil servants in other sectors and fields, which is not appropriate. Many teachers teach during the day and have to sell online at night to earn extra money to cover their living expenses. The pressure of life has caused many people to leave the teaching profession to do other jobs.

According to the Ministry of Education and Training, in less than 4 years, from August 2020 to April 2024, more than 47,000 teachers nationwide quit their jobs, of which young teachers accounted for 60%. It is worth mentioning that among teachers who quit their jobs or changed jobs at all levels, preschool teachers accounted for a fairly large number. While in reality, preparing for universal preschool education for children from 3 to 5 years old; teaching 2 sessions/day; gradually making English the second language in schools... requires the education sector to need a large number of teachers.
