Hanoi: Retail sales of goods and services increased by 12.6% in 8 months

Hanoi's total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue in the first 8 months of 2025 is estimated at 615.7 trillion VND, up 12.6% over the same period last year. Retail sales of goods accounted for the largest proportion at 387.9 trillion VND.

Strong growth in many product and service groups

According to Hanoi City Statistics, in August 2025, the total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue is estimated at VND 81.6 trillion, up 4.8% over the previous month and up 13.4% over the same period in 2024. Of which, retail sales of goods reached VND 49.7 trillion, up 4.1% and up 11.5% over the same period; accommodation and food revenue reached VND 12.4 trillion, up 9.6% and up 16.8%; tourism revenue reached VND 3.3 trillion, up 11.3% and up 33%; other service revenue reached VND 16.2 trillion, up 2.2% and up 13.7%.

Many commodity groups recorded high growth, notably gems and precious metals up 28.2%; wood and construction materials up 16.9%; food and foodstuffs up 12.6%; garments up 11.3%; gasoline up 11.2%; cars up 10.8%; other fuels (except gasoline) up 9.9%; household appliances, tools and equipment up 9.7%; other items up 13.6%.

In the service sector, revenue from accommodation and catering services reached VND85.2 trillion in 8 months, accounting for 13.8% of the total, up 16.1% over the same period; of which accommodation services increased by 15.4% and catering services increased by 21.4%. Revenue from tourism and travel reached VND22.1 trillion, accounting for 3.6% and up 21.4%. Revenue from other services reached VND120.5 trillion, accounting for 19.6% and up 10.2%.

Transport and postal delivery maintain growth momentum

In addition to the consumer sector, the transportation and postal delivery industry also recorded positive results. In August 2025, the total revenue of this industry is estimated at VND 21.4 trillion, up 1.3% over the previous month and 16.1% over the same period. In the first 8 months, the total revenue reached VND 167.4 trillion, up 16.3% over the same period in 2024.

Passenger transport activities in August recorded 43.5 million passengers, up 3.5% over the previous month and 22.4% over the same period; passenger turnover reached 1.3 billion passenger-km, up 3.3% and 18.8%. Passenger transport revenue reached VND2.2 trillion, up 3.4% over the previous month and 19.1%.

In the first 8 months, the number of passengers reached 332.9 million, up 19.9%; revenue reached 17.2 trillion VND, up 17.4%.

In the freight transport sector, in August 2025, the volume of goods reached 154.7 million tons, up 1.5% over the previous month and up 13.1% over the same period. The revenue from freight transport is estimated at VND 8.8 trillion, up 1.2% and up 13.6%. In the first 8 months, the volume of transport reached 1,206.9 million tons, up 12.9%; the volume of turnover reached 116.9 billion tons/km, up 12.8%; the revenue reached VND 68.6 trillion, up 13.1%.

During the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2, people's travel needs increased sharply. Major bus stations such as My Dinh, Giap Bat, and Nuoc Ngam all recorded passenger numbers many times higher than normal days, with My Dinh and Giap Bat increasing by over 350%, and Nuoc Ngam increasing by 250-300%.

Hanoi Railway One Member Co., Ltd. has adjusted the schedule, extended the operating time and increased the frequency of trains on the two urban railway lines Cat Linh - Ha Dong and Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station. The city's functional forces have also increased inspection and supervision at bus stations, strictly handling the situation of overloading, soliciting passengers, and selling tickets in violation of regulations, in order to ensure traffic safety, social order and quality of service to people during the holiday.
