On September 12, the Hanoi Market Management Department said that, implementing the peak plan for market inspection and control during the Mid-Autumn Festival 2025, Market Management teams in the capital city proactively increased their grasp of the situation, promptly detected and handled acts of smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods, and poor quality goods related to food, moon cakes, and children's toys.
Specifically, Market Management Team No. 2 (Hanoi Market Management Department) inspected a food business at No. 39, Ham Tu Quan Street, Hong Ha Ward. Through the inspection, the authorities discovered that the establishment was selling 1,568 cakes of various types, including 1,440 moon cakes and 128 sponge cakes with foreign labels. At the time of inspection, the owner of the establishment could not present legal invoices or documents proving the origin of the goods. All of the above cakes were identified as smuggled goods and were temporarily detained by Market Management Team No. 2 for handling according to the law.
A representative of Market Management Team No. 2 said that the business of smuggled moon cakes of unknown origin poses many potential risks to food safety and can directly affect the health of consumers, especially during the Mid-Autumn Festival when demand increases.
Not only focusing on food products, Market Management Team No. 2 also coordinated with the functional agencies of Hanoi City to inspect 8 children's toy businesses in Hoan Kiem and Hong Ha wards. As a result, the functional forces discovered and seized 2,972 children's toy products of all kinds with foreign labels, without invoices and documents proving legal origin. The functional forces estimated the total value of the violating goods to be 96.73 million VND.
Smuggled toys of unknown origin are often not quality-tested and pose a potential risk of harm to children. This is also a key group of goods that will be subject to inspection and supervision in this year's Mid-Autumn Festival Plan.
According to the Hanoi Market Management Department (Standing Agency of the City's Steering Committee 389), the cases that have just been discovered and handled show the complexity of the market for smuggled food, moon cakes and children's toys during peak season. The Department has directed its Market Management teams to continue to closely follow the plan, strengthen coordination with the police force and local authorities to regularly inspect and promptly prevent goods of unknown origin from entering the market.
In addition, authorities also recommend that people choose products with clear labels and origins, and absolutely do not buy floating products or products with unusually low prices to avoid affecting the health and interests of themselves and their families.
