According to a new statement from the Saudi Arabian Foreign Ministry, the country's leadership recognized the importance of strengthening relations and the need to take the relationship to broader horizons.

On September 5, Saudi Arabia's Ambassador to Iran, Abdullah bin Saud al-Anzi, arrived in Tehran.
On the same day, Iran's Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Alireza Enayati, was also present in the capital Riyadh, where he was received by officials from the host country's Foreign Ministry and embassy staff, according to Iran's IRNA news agency.
Mr. Saud al-Anzi was previously Saudi Arabia's ambassador to Oman, while Mr. Enayati served as Iran's special envoy to Kuwait.
In March this year, China brokered the resumption of diplomatic relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran, leading to the gradual resumption of full diplomatic relations.
The Saudi embassy in Tehran reopened last month and in June Iran also opened its embassy in Riyadh with a flag-raising ceremony.
Last month, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian made his first visit to Saudi Arabia since the rapprochement, asserting that bilateral relations were moving in the right direction.
Saudi Arabia has also restored ties with Iran's ally Syria and stepped up its push for peace in Yemen since the March deal.
Earlier in 2016, Riyadh and Tehran severed ties after Saudi Arabia's diplomatic missions in Iran were attacked during protests against Riyadh's execution of Shia cleric Nimrr al-Nimr.
