Rice is one of our country's key export items. According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development , in the first 7 months of 2024, Vietnam exported 5.18 million tons of rice, equivalent to 3.27 billion USD, up 5.8% in volume and 25.1% in value over the same period in 2023.
This was partly due to the high export price of Vietnamese rice. The average export price of rice reached 632 USD/ton, an increase of more than 18% compared to the same period last year.
India's ban on the export of all types of ordinary rice, except white basmati rice, has caused the price of rice in the world market to increase. Therefore, rice exporting countries such as Vietnam and Thailand have seen an increase in the value of rice exports.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in 7 months, the whole country has planted 6.25 million hectares, up 0.2% over the same period last year. The harvested rice area is 3.82 million hectares, up 1.3%; the average yield is 65.6 quintals/hectare, up 0.5 quintals/hectare. The output on the harvested area is 25 million tons, up 2%.
In particular, the Autumn-Winter rice crop in the Mekong Delta provinces has been planted on 306,700 hectares, an increase of 11.7% over the same period last year.
Vietnam's 5% broken rice was offered at $560 per tonne on August 1, compared with $550-$560 per tonne a week earlier, according to traders.
