Abundant goods, purchasing power remains sluggish
In the last months of 2025, retail systems, supermarkets and convenience stores in Vinh Long province simultaneously launched large promotional programs, deep discounts to stimulate domestic consumption, promote cashless payments and promote Vietnamese products. However, market observations by reporters show that purchasing power has not yet had a clear breakthrough.

At Tan Hanh market (Tan Hanh ward), goods are abundant, prices are stable, but the number of customers is still down compared to the same period last year. Ms. Pham Thi Thuy, representative of the Market Management Board, said: "Small traders are proactively reducing the scale of goods imported, focusing on essential goods, affordable prices to stimulate consumption. At the same time, we also encourage them to combine direct and online sales to increase customer access."
Meanwhile, the sharp increase in input costs has caused difficulties for many businesses. Ms. Nguyen Thi Truc Linh, Director of Thuan Duyen Food Company Limited, said: “ The price of imported raw materials has increased by about 20% compared to the same period last year, causing production costs to increase. However, businesses are still trying to keep prices stable to maintain purchasing power and retain customers.”
According to Mr. Pham Thanh Truc, Director of Vinh Long Electricity Company, the total electricity output in the first 9 months of 2025 in the province reached more than 3.8 billion kWh, of which the management - consumption group accounted for more than 51.6%, a slight decrease compared to the previous year, reflecting the trend of saving electricity of the people. Mr. Truc added that the unit is ensuring a stable power source for production, business and consumption activities at the end of the year.
Synchronizing solutions to stabilize the market and stimulate demand
In order to ensure supply-demand balance and stabilize prices of essential goods at the end of 2025 and Lunar New Year 2026, the Department of Industry and Trade of Vinh Long province has implemented a plan to support businesses, cooperatives and distribution systems to reserve goods, maintain a stable supply, contribute to curbing inflation and promoting production.
The Department also requested localities to strengthen market monitoring and forecasting; proactively handle unusual situations, prevent speculation, hoarding, and unreasonable price increases. At the same time, mobilize businesses to participate in the "Vietnam Grand Sale 2025" program from December 1, 2025 to January 18, 2026, with a maximum discount of 100% of the value of goods, to stimulate year-end shopping.
The Vinh Long Market Management Department will also strengthen inspections, combat trade fraud, counterfeit goods, and poor quality goods, and protect consumer rights. Mr. Le Thanh Phong, Deputy Head of the Department, said: "Market management teams are closely monitoring price movements, especially for essential goods such as gasoline, food, and foodstuffs, etc., to promptly handle violations and maintain market stability."
According to the report of the People's Committee of Vinh Long province, the consumer price index (CPI) in the first 9 months of 2025 increased by 3.09% over the same period, in which prices of food, catering services, housing, construction materials and healthcare increased. This fluctuation caused household spending to focus more on food and essential living expenses, while spending on entertainment and shopping remained at a cautious level.
The Vinh Long Industry and Trade Department has set a dual goal: to both stabilize the market and stimulate domestic consumption, creating a strong recovery momentum for production and business. Thereby, contributing to promoting sustainable economic growth and improving people's lives in the final period of 2025.
The implementation of large-scale promotional programs, associated with price stabilization, will significantly contribute to achieving the goal of increasing total retail sales and consumer service revenue of Vinh Long province by 12% in 2025 compared to 2024, creating momentum for sustainable development in the following years.
