On May 30, the Department of Education and Training of Ca Mau summarized the 2025 high school graduation mock exam. Initial results showed some worrying signs, not only in the high rate of failing scores but also in the significant decrease in the average scores of many subjects, especially compulsory subjects.

Specifically, the mock exam recorded 76 failing scores (≤1 point). Of which, literature leads with 33 failing scores, followed by math with 27 cases. These are two compulsory subjects in the high school graduation exam, so with just one failing score, candidates will not be eligible to graduate.

Not only did the failing score increase, the average score also decreased. According to statistics from the Department of Education and Training of Ca Mau, the average score of 9/12 subjects corresponding to the previous year's exam was only 60.42%, down 4.4% compared to 2024. Of which, 7 subjects had a sharp decrease in average score, especially biology (down 20.47%), chemistry (down 13.09%) and geography (down 13.29%). Most notably, math dropped by over 50%, causing many schools to report that candidates did not reach the safety threshold.

The whole province had 10,793 candidates taking the mock exam (35 candidates were absent). Accordingly, the graduation rate was 95.84%, a slight decrease of 0.17% compared to 2024. However, up to 15 out of 34 schools had a lower graduation rate than the mock exam last year.

From this result, the Department of Education and Training of Ca Mau warned that many students are at risk of not being able to graduate if they do not improve their exam results. In addition, the university entrance exam scores of many candidates are also low, reducing their chances of getting into prestigious universities.

In response to the results of the mock exam, theeducation sector of Ca Mau province requested schools to urgently draw profound lessons from their teaching and review work; focus on correcting papers, guiding students to master the exam regulations and test-taking skills. In particular, it is necessary to organize the classification of students to have appropriate review plans, promptly support weak students, those at risk of failing graduation, and at the same time find effective solutions to prevent the situation of failing grades.

In addition, the Department of Education and Training of Ca Mau emphasized the requirement to improve teaching quality, carefully prepare facilities at official examination sites, and prepare disease prevention plans for the upcoming exam in accordance with regulations of the health sector.
