Hundreds of thousands of people across the country will wear red flags with yellow stars, sing the national anthem and march forward with Vietnam.

It is expected that early in the morning of August 16, hundreds of thousands of people from 34 provinces and cities will wear red shirts with yellow stars, head to Ba Dinh Square to watch the national flag-raising ceremony, sing the national anthem, and then walk together "Forward Together Vietnam".

The organizers aim to have '1 billion steps into the new era'

This is a national walking activity "Moving Forward with Vietnam" organized by Nhan Dan newspaper and the Ministry of Public Security , to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution, National Day September 2 and the Traditional Day of the People's Public Security.

Millions of hearts beat together

At the press conference to inform about the activity on the afternoon of August 11, the organizing committee said that this was the first time a walking activity was held simultaneously in 34 provinces and cities with 3,321 communes, wards and administrative zones nationwide.

Accordingly, the national walking activity "Moving Forward with Vietnam" takes place from July 25 to August 16. People across the country can register online and walk every day, contributing to the journey of 1 billion steps into the new era.

This is a practical activity to demonstrate patriotism, spread healthy lifestyles and reduce carbon emissions, towards the country's Net Zero goal.

Mr. Le Quoc Minh - editor-in-chief of Nhan Dan newspaper, head of the steering committee of the "Moving Forward with Vietnam" activity - said that on the morning of August 16, before the nationwide walk took place, the program would have a live connection (livestream on Nhan Dan newspaper's platform) with the flag-raising ceremony at Ba Dinh Square.

In 33 provinces and cities, more than 3,000 communes, wards and special zones will simultaneously organize solemn flag-saluting ceremonies, creating a meaningful moment, uniting millions of hearts towards the Fatherland.

This will be a journey of millions of hearts beating in unison - a place where all generations and all classes of people from central to local levels, from urban to rural, mountainous, remote and isolated areas converge.

Each locality contributes its strength to join forces for a great goal: for a united, strong Vietnam, ready to step into a new era.

The goal is for 200,000 people to participate.

Major General Le Hong Hiep - Deputy Director of the Department of Political Work (Ministry of Public Security) - affirmed that this is not only a simple community physical activity, but also a collective action rich in political and social significance, demonstrating the determination of the entire nation in overcoming difficulties together.

The Ministry of Public Security has directed the police of provinces and centrally-run cities to preside over and coordinate with the resident agencies of Nhan Dan newspaper to advise the People's Committees of provinces and cities to simultaneously organize and launch in 34 provinces and cities with 3,321 communes, wards and administrative zones nationwide.

In particular, the police force will not only carry out propaganda but will also participate in the walk.

According to the organizers, up to this point, on the online registration portal cungvietnamtienbuoc.nhandan.vn, in just one week, the number of steps has reached more than 150 million, equal to 1/7 of the set target.

Ho Chi Minh City alone has 90,000 registered participants, Hanoi has 10,000 people.

Many units and tens of thousands of union members and youths across the country also responded enthusiastically. The organizing committee set a target of having about 200,000 people nationwide participate in the activity.
