On January 8th, coach Nguyen Duc Thang officially signed a contract to lead The Cong Viettel Club. The Hanoi-born coach affirmed that he will change the playing style and build an attacking philosophy for the military team.
" I will strive to build a football philosophy, identity, and playing style for the Viettel The Cong players. The players will focus on ball control, teamwork, and beautiful attacking football. We are ready to play brilliantly and bring the audience exciting matches ," said coach Nguyen Duc Thang.

The coach, born in 1976, made this decision because, for a long time, The Cong Viettel has been known as a pragmatic team, prioritizing tight defense and quick transitions between attacking and defensive phases.
The pinnacle of this style of play was winning the V.League 2020 championship. At that time, The Cong Viettel, under the guidance of coach Truong Viet Hoang, scored only 29 goals, ranking 4th in the league, and conceded only 16 goals, the fewest in the league along with Hanoi FC.
Coach Nguyen Duc Thang is a former The Cong player from 1995 to 2005. After that, he began his coaching career with the club's youth team. He then coached the Hanoi FC youth team (later renamed Saigon FC) from 2014 to 2017. In the 2018 and 2019 seasons, he managed Thanh Hoa FC before moving to Binh Dinh in 2020.

His best achievement in the V.League was leading Binh Dinh to a third-place finish in the 2022 season. After the 2023 V.League season ended, he decided to part ways with the Binh Dinh team.
" I spent 20 years in the military and over 10 years in the National Championship, but the feelings of a player are very different from the feelings of a head coach. Thirteen years ago, I was here to train the youth team. This time, the responsibility is greater, but it also means greater pride. I will have the opportunity to strive and contribute to the resurgence of the The Cong Viettel team ," Coach Nguyen Duc Thang expressed.
Coach Nguyen Duc Thang is leading The Cong Viettel, while Thomas Dooley returns to his role as Technical Director. The American coach continues with the team's youth development projects.
