Coach Duc Thang determined to build beautiful attacking style of play for Viettel The Cong

On January 8, Coach Nguyen Duc Thang officially signed a contract to lead Viettel The Cong Club. The Hanoi coach affirmed that he will change the playing style and build an attacking philosophy for the army team.

" I will strive to build a football philosophy, identity and playing style for Viettel The Cong players. The players will play to control the ball, coordinate with teammates and attack beautifully. We are ready to compete sublimely and bring the audience dedicated matches ," said coach Nguyen Duc Thang.

The coach born in 1976 made this determination because for a long time, The Cong Viettel has been known as a pragmatic team, emphasizing tight defense and quick transitions.

The peak of this style of play was the 2020 V.League championship. At that time, The Cong Viettel under the leadership of coach Truong Viet Hoang only scored 29 goals, ranked 4th in the tournament and conceded 16 goals, the least in the tournament with Hanoi FC.

Coach Nguyen Duc Thang was a former player of The Cong from 1995 to 2005. After that, he started his coaching career in the youth team of this team. Next was the period of leading the youth team of Hanoi FC (later renamed Saigon FC) from 2014 to 2017. In the 2018 and 2019 seasons, he took charge of Thanh Hoa Club before returning to Binh Dinh in 2020.

His best achievement in V.League was finishing third with Binh Dinh in the 2022 season. After the end of V.League 2023, he decided to leave the team.

" I have 20 years in the army, more than 10 years in the National Championship, but the feelings of a player compared to the feelings of a head coach are very special. 13 years ago, I was here but to train the youth team. This time back, the responsibility is higher, but it also means greater pride. I will have the opportunity to strive and contribute to the The Cong Viettel team to rise again, " Coach Nguyen Duc Thang expressed.
