Support essential goods for people in flood-affected areas

On November 8, the Lam Dong Provincial Red Cross coordinated with sponsors to deliver relief goods to people in flood-affected areas in Ham Thanh commune, Lam Dong province.

The relief trucks delivered 540 practical gifts, contributing to helping people in hamlets 1, 2, 3 and Lo To (Ham Thanh commune) overcome difficult times. In addition to essential necessities such as rice, noodles, water, milk, drinking water, the group also gave blankets, mosquito nets, clothes and cash with a total value of nearly 350 million VND to households in difficult circumstances affected by storm No. 13 and the recent floods.

Ham Thanh is one of the localities severely affected by floods. According to the report of the Commune People's Committee, from the night of October 26 to November 1, Ham Thanh experienced very heavy rain, causing flash floods along the banks of the Linh River, serious landslides on many roads, flooding along streams, damaging crops, flowers, and houses.

Just counting storm No. 13 and the storm's circulation, on the evening of November 7, some households along the river in Lo To village were flooded up to 0.5 - 0.7m deep; the road leading to My Thanh village at Bom Bi spillway had river water overflowing onto the road... The total estimated damage in the commune is nearly 13 billion VND. Currently, the local government is continuing to review and count the damage in order to promptly support or propose damage support, helping people quickly stabilize their lives and production.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Nhan, Vice President of Lam Dong Provincial Red Cross Society, said: The gifts given to people not only have material significance but also demonstrate the spirit of "Mutual love and support", "The healthy leaves cover the torn leaves", adding strength to the people in flood-affected areas to resiliently cope with natural disasters and quickly stabilize their lives.

Right from the first days of the flood, the Provincial Red Cross quickly brought emergency relief food and essential goods to the people in the flood-affected areas.

According to preliminary statistics, from October 31 to November 8, the Association presented more than 3,300 gifts with a total value of over 1.3 billion VND to localities heavily affected in the eastern region of the province such as: Ham Thuan Bac, Song Luy, Luong Son, Ham Thanh...
