
The event attracted many experts, researchers, lecturers, students from the Diplomatic Academy, University of Technology, Vietnam-Japan University, Hanoi University, as well as staff and researchers from the Asia- Pacific Research Institute.
In his opening speech, Dr. Dang Xuan Thanh, Vice President of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, said that in the context of the world witnessing profound changes in economics, politics, technology and society, Japan, as one of the leading countries in science, technology, economy and culture, continues to play an important role not only in the Asia- Pacific region but also globally. Japan is a model in many areas such as innovation, digital transformation, liberal education, cultural development and tradition preservation.
Studying Japan's development trends in the 2020-2030 decade will help Vietnam identify opportunities and challenges, thereby orienting policies, cooperation programs as well as academic research between the two countries.
The current Vietnam-Japan relationship is built on the basis of sustainable and mutually beneficial cooperation, spanning the fields of politics, economics, defense, education, science and technology, culture and society. The workshop is an opportunity for domestic and foreign scientists and experts to openly discuss, seek creative solutions as well as connect long-term research networks, thereby improving the effectiveness of Vietnam-Japan cooperation in all fields.
Dr. Dang Xuan Thanh hopes that through in-depth discussions, the workshop will bring many valuable results, not only in terms of research but also in terms of practice, contributing to the planning of cooperation policies in the future.

Mr. Yoshioka Norihiko, Director of the Japan Foundation Center for Cultural Exchange, said that although Japan has gone through a turbulent decade of 2020 - 2030 with a declining birth rate, aging and declining population, slowing economic growth... However, the attractiveness of Japan as a place to experience culture and study has not been lost as the number of tourists and international students coming to Japan has been increasing every year. Japan has always been a valuable research subject for Vietnam and the role of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences is particularly important in conducting in-depth research on Japan and disseminating research results to the whole society.
The conference was divided into two sessions. The first session discussed “Japan’s political and economic issues”; the second session discussed “Japan’s cultural and social issues and Vietnam-Japan cooperation”.
In the report on “Community in preserving the traditional craft of Kamakura-bori lacquer wood carving in Japan - Links with Dong Ky fine art wood carving in Vietnam”, Dr. Ngo Huong Lan, Director of the Center for Japanese Studies, Asia-Pacific Research Institute, analyzed the role of the community in preserving traditional crafts in Japan and Vietnam, through two specific cases: Kamakura bori lacquer wood carving and Dong Ky fine art wood carving. From comparing the similarities and differences between these two communities, the report makes recommendations to improve the effectiveness of preserving crafts in Vietnam.

The reports presented at the Workshop received many exchanges and lively discussions from the attending officials and scholars. Most opinions highly appreciated the timeliness, theoretical and practical value of the reports presented.
Many issues raised attracted the attention of many delegates attending the Workshop and at the same time suggested new research directions in the coming time: Some current challenges of the Japanese economy such as the public debt problem, Japan's strengths in investing heavily in human resources, how the "innovation" policy called "society 5.0" will change Japanese society, improving the quality of Vietnam's population and population problems that Vietnam will face in the future from lessons learned from Japan...
