On August 2, Mr. Pham Van Nam, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Gia Lai province, confirmed that a student from this province had just won a gold medal at the 2025 International Olympiad in Informatics held in Bolivia.
Accordingly, the candidate with this excellent achievement is Le Kien Thanh, a 12th grade student at Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted, Quy Nhon Ward, Gia Lai .
This is the first time a candidate from Gia Lai province has won a gold medal at the International Olympiad in Informatics.
Mr. Huynh Le Minh, principal of Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted, said that at the 2025 International Olympiad in Informatics, the Vietnamese delegation had 4 contestants participating and all won prizes.
Specifically, in addition to Le Kien Thanh winning the gold medal; Dang Huy Hau - Thang Long High School for the Gifted, Lam Dong - won the silver medal; Nguyen Bui Duc Dung - High School for the Gifted in Natural Sciences , Hanoi National University - won the silver medal; Ninh Quang Thang - Ha Long High School for the Gifted, Quang Ninh - won the bronze medal.
After receiving the good news, the school said there would be a suitable reward when Kien Thanh returned to Vietnam.
According to teacher Minh, Le Kien Thanh is an excellent student of the school, having achieved many high achievements in provincial and national competitions in informatics.
I am a member of the Vietnamese national team competing in the Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad (APIO) in 2024. I ranked first out of 15 candidates selected to compete in the Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad in 2025.
Vietnam has participated in the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) since the first time the competition was held in 1989. Since then, Vietnam has participated regularly every year and achieved quite high results.
So far, Vietnamese contestants have won 21 gold medals, 51 silver medals and 54 bronze medals at this tournament.
