The English musical The Enchanted Crossbow , performed by Victoria School students, is part of an arts project that integrates history studies and stage performances.

Inspired by the familiar story of Trong Thuy - My Chau, the musical is staged in a modern style, combining music , choreography, costumes and lighting effects.

Nearly 50 students from primary to secondary school took on the roles of actors and dancers, with professional support from artists from the Vietnam Youth Theatre.

According to the school, from the selection stage to the rehearsal, the play was prepared for nearly two months.

During that time, students must juggle between their regular school schedule and evening or weekend practice sessions. The sessions last for hours, including speaking practice, English pronunciation, singing, dancing, and group work.

Meritorious Artist Le Anh Tuyet, the play’s general director, said this was the first time many of the children had stepped onto the big stage. The accompanying artists highly appreciated their ability to absorb, their individual efforts, as well as their close coordination within the group.

She shared: "You are not simply student actors. During the work process, I noticed in you the seriousness of real young artists."

Taking on the female lead role, Dang Nguyen Thu Ky, a 10th grade student, shared that participating in this musical was a journey that helped her mature a lot.

In addition to learning performance skills and improving your English, you also learn how to listen and understand better the inner feelings of a historical legend character like My Chau.

Meanwhile, Gia Bao, the student playing the role of the king, said that the process of practicing and transforming into the character helped him better understand the role and pressure of being the head of the country.

"I understand the worries and concerns of a king for the fate of the country, understand how our ancestors worked hard to build and protect the country. The play helped me see the value of peace , patriotism and national spirit," Gia Bao said.

"We want each performance to be not just a performance, but also a learning process where students develop critical thinking, initiative and personal responsibility," said the school's principal, Mr. Christopher Bradley.
