Regarding some questions about Ho Chi Minh City's 2025-2026 school year timetable, which does not include a Lunar New Year holiday in 2026, Mr. Ho Tan Minh, Chief of the Office of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, stated:
"The academic year timetable for 2025-2026 in Ho Chi Minh City follows the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training. Specifically, the academic year begins on September 5th and ends on May 31st, ensuring a full 35 weeks of teaching. The official Lunar New Year holiday schedule needs to wait for the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to issue it. The Department of Education and Training is expected to propose to the People's Committee that students have a two-week holiday for the Lunar New Year."
According to Mr. Minh: "During this time, schools can proactively arrange teaching and learning plans to ensure the required number of weeks of actual schooling. The Lunar New Year holiday schedule will be arranged appropriately, provided that the required number of teaching weeks is ensured. The Department will propose a Lunar New Year holiday schedule that covers a full week, meaning the holiday falls on the weekend and classes resume at the beginning of the week."
According to the 2025-2026 school year schedule of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, the first semester begins on September 5th, ensuring 18 weeks of actual learning; the remaining time is for other activities.
The second semester begins on January 19, 2026, ensuring 17 weeks of actual learning. The school year will end before May 31, 2026.
Therefore, the Lunar New Year holiday schedule for students in Ho Chi Minh City in 2026 could be from February 9th to February 22nd, 2026 (i.e., from the 22nd day of the 12th lunar month to the 6th day of the 1st lunar month).
