Over the past 10 days, the capital of Algeria, Algiers, has become a meeting place for millions of readers and book lovers within the framework of the 28th Algiers International Book Fair (SILA) taking place at the Safex Exhibition Center.
With a record of more than 5.6 million visitors, hundreds of exhibitions, seminars and exchange programs, SILA 2025 continues to affirm its position as Algeria's largest cultural event and one of the most prestigious book fairs in the Arab and African regions.
According to a VNA reporter in Algiers, SILA this year is not only a place to display and introduce publications, but is also considered a space for creativity and dialogue, where reading culture is honored in the intersection between tradition and digital technology .
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Head of the Organizing Committee Mohamed Iguerb assessed this as a fair "rich in ideas and humanistic experiences."
One of the highlights of the fair is a panel discussion on the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) in artistic creation organized by the National Office of Copyright and Related Rights (ONDA).
CEO Samir Thaalbi said the question is no longer “will AI change art or not” but “how do we orient AI.” He said ONDA is implementing a digitalization strategy based on three pillars, including copyright protection, spreading copyright culture and applying technology in creative management.

The fair atmosphere also became vibrant with the explosion of fantasy and horror books, attracting young readers thanks to the spread of social networks, especially TikTok and Instagram. The genre, once considered a “niche”, has now become a prominent part of contemporary literature.
At the Ghassan-Kanafani Pavilion, the Arab Poetry Exchange program brings together poets from many countries in the region such as Egypt, Iraq, Palestine, Qatar, Tunisia, Oman, Syria and Algeria.
In a warm and emotional atmosphere, the poets together honored brotherhood, freedom and human aspirations through emotional verses.
Professor Abderrezak Dourari believes that SILA is now an essential link in the “ economic chain of reading activities”, bringing together publishers, authors and readers in the same space of exchange. According to him, this connection not only promotes the publishing industry but also nurtures a reading culture in society.
On the sidelines of the event, the Organizing Committee also arranged a traditional fair area, where people from different regions brought local specialties and products to introduce and sell, contributing to promoting national culture and connecting the community.
In particular, the areas dedicated to children are vividly designed with educational activities combined with fun, helping parents and children experience the values of books together.
These activities aim to form reading habits and foster reading culture for the young generation, while helping them stay away from harmful content from social networks and electronic audio-visual devices.
Within the framework of the event, the “My First Book” contest for authors under 35 years old honored four young writers writing in four languages including Arabic, Tamazight, English and French.
The National Library of Algeria's “Beautiful Books” exhibition was awarded the most impressive booth.
With a record number of visitors, a diversity of topics and a spirit of international integration, SILA 2025 continues to affirm its role as a space for creativity, dialogue and reading inspiration, a place where cultural traditions and new trends of the digital age intersect./.
