According to a VNA reporter in Vientiane, Lao media such as the Lao News Agency (KPL), Lao National Radio and Pasaxon newspaper have in recent days reported strongly on Laos's affirmation of its strong and consistent commitment to joining hands with the international community to prevent cybercrime - one of the biggest non-traditional security challenges today.
On October 25-26 in Hanoi , Lao General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith led a high-ranking delegation to attend the signing ceremony and High-Level Conference of the United Nations (UN) Convention against Cybercrime (also known as the Hanoi Convention).
The event was attended by more than 110 countries, of which 63 countries and the European Union (EU) signed the Convention, demonstrating the desire for global cooperation in preventing cybercrime.
General Vilay Lakhamfong, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Security of Laos, represented Laos in signing the Convention and congratulated the Vietnamese Government for its proactive role throughout the process of drafting the document since 2019 as well as successfully organizing the Signing Ceremony.
General Lakhamfong emphasized that the Hanoi Convention is an important legal tool in the fight against cybercrime and the signing ceremony of the Hanoi Convention reflects the international community's trust in the role of countries in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), in line with the region's digital transformation strategy, and at the same time demonstrates the international community's common determination in promoting the safe use of information and communication technology to serve socio-economic development, join hands to prevent cybercrime, and ensure security for countries in the region and the world.
According to Lao media, the attendance of high-ranking Lao leaders at the signing ceremony in Hanoi shows Laos' strong political will in building an international legal basis to ensure the use of information technology to serve economic development, trade, investment and tourism, as well as ensure people's safety.
Lao media affirmed that the signing ceremony of the Hanoi Convention will help promote the importance of digital transformation, one of Laos' national priorities to orient socio-economic development and achieve sustainable development goals, creating a safe environment to combat cybercrime.
For Laos, one of the UN member states that has signed the Hanoi Convention, this will be an important basis for Laos to improve domestic regulations and laws accordingly to support the regional and international cooperation framework, protecting the legitimate rights and interests of Lao people from threats from the cyber environment.
In Algeria, the online newspaper Algerie360 also published an article stating that Algeria's signing of the Hanoi Convention is a historic step forward in international cooperation on digital security.

According to a VNA reporter in Algiers, implementing the direction of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Mr. Lounès Magramane - Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Overseas Communities and African Affairs - represented Algeria in signing the Convention.
The article highlights Algeria's central role in the drafting of this document, as it chairs the Special Committee tasked with drafting the Convention, demonstrating the North African country's determination to become a key player in ensuring global cybersecurity.
For Algeria, signing the Hanoi Convention reaffirms its commitment to strengthening international cooperation to combat global cybersecurity threats, while demonstrating its determination to build a safe and trustworthy cyberspace for the common good of humanity./.
