On August 29, the Border Guard Command of Son La province and the Military Command of Huaphan province (Laos) held the 14th annual meeting in 2023.

Implementing the border cooperation agreement and the signed minutes of talks, the Border Guard Command of Son La province and the Military Command of Huaphan province have actively coordinated to propagate and mobilize people to strictly comply with the Protocol on the Vietnam-Laos border and border markers; regularly coordinate to exchange information, the situation of border management and protection, maintain political security and social order and safety; fight against drug-related crimes, smuggling, trade fraud; prevent free migration, unregistered marriages; illegal entry and exit; coordinate to patrol and protect the border system and border markers. Along with that, promote friendly exchanges, closely coordinate and ensure safety in performing tasks; contribute to building a peaceful, friendly, stable, cooperative and developing border, promoting the tradition of solidarity and special friendship between Vietnam and Laos.

In the past time, the two sides have organized 23 joint patrols/528 officers and soldiers participating; regularly maintained border circulation activities, since the beginning of 2023, more than 38,000 people have been cleared for exit from the border area, and more than 43,000 people have been cleared for entry into the border area. In addition, they have coordinated consultations, provided professional support, arrested 20 cases/27 subjects, seized 1 heroin cake, nearly 50,000 synthetic drug pills, 1.45 kg of opium resin, 2.4 kg of opium plants, 13 guns and 117 bullets.
At the talks, the two sides agreed to sign many important contents, such as: Continuing to seriously and effectively implement the Border Cooperation Agreement between the Vietnam Border Guard Command and the Border Guard Department, General Staff of the Lao People's Army; enhancing the exchange of information on the situation related to border management and protection. At the same time, continuing to organize bilateral patrols to protect the border system, border markers, coordinating to maintain political security, social order and safety in the border area to build a peaceful, friendly, cooperative and developed border.
