The British Council said that recently, some impostors “with connections to test organizations” can change IELTS scores and provide test questions before the official test date. The British Council confirmed that all of these actions are fraudulent.
Specifically, scammers often impersonate partners or have relationships with co-owners of the IELTS exam and claim to be able to access the candidate list and change the candidates' IELTS scores; can provide fake IELTS score sheets without the candidates taking the exam; falsify test results on the online IELTS test score confirmation system; and provide test questions before the official exam date.
These scams are advertised on social media sites (such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.), on forums or websites, and are sent to candidates via email or messaging apps. In addition, these scammers often approach candidates directly at exam locations or exam preparation centers.
Responding to VietNamNet , the British Council confirmed that all of the above advertising behaviors and content are fraudulent.
“Currently, there is still a small percentage of test takers who intentionally cheat by finding someone to 'take the test for them', using various cheating methods and becoming victims of scammers who want to take their property. Therefore, candidates need to be vigilant when receiving this fraudulent information,” said a representative of the British Council.
Cheating cases will have their test results cancelled by the examination board, even after receiving their score reports. Serious cases of cheating may result in the cancellation of test results, a ban of up to 5 years for IELTS, and a refusal to be considered for a period of time by organizations that recognize certificates globally.
“The IELTS test is highly secure at multiple stages before, during and after the test to ensure the accuracy and reliability of an internationally recognised language proficiency test. The British Council has implemented multi-layered security measures to enhance the security of the test, including dedicated test venue procedures and rigorous annual audit and operational procedures for test centres.
We are also working closely with other authorities around the world, including Immigration and Legal Services, to detect, prevent and take appropriate legal action against fraudulent or deceptive activities in accordance with national laws,” the British Council shared.
