Cam Hiep Commune Women's Union: Joining hands to combat child marriage and consanguineous marriage.

Child marriage and consanguineous marriage were once significant issues affecting the quality of the population, reproductive health, and sustainable development of Cam Hiep commune. In recent years, thanks to the coordinated efforts of the entire political system, with the Women's Union of the commune playing a core role, the prevention of child marriage and consanguineous marriage has seen many positive changes, gradually altering the awareness and behavior of people in the community.

Innovate content and diversify forms of propaganda.

Recognizing that public awareness campaigns are a crucial "key" to preventing child marriage and consanguineous marriage, the Women's Union of Cam Hiep commune has continuously innovated its content, methods, and approaches to suit each target group. Instead of isolated, rigid campaigns, union officials have integrated child marriage prevention content into practical movements and models such as: "Building the Modern Vietnamese Woman," "The Family with 5 No's and 3 Cleanliness Standards," and "Building Happy Families," linking each family's responsibility to the future of their children.

According to a report by the Women's Union of Cam Hiep commune, during the period 2021-2025, the union organized 10 training sessions for 350 members and women on the Law on Marriage and Family, the harmful effects of child marriage, and consanguineous marriage among ethnic minorities. In addition, over 300 members and women received training in applying techniques in raising chickens, pigs, and cattle, contributing to improving livelihoods and reducing economic pressure – one of the causes of child marriage. A highlight of the innovative communication efforts was the establishment of community communication teams in Valy and Suoi Coc villages – two villages with a high concentration of Raglai ethnic minority people. Through direct communication, dramatization, and engaging dialogue, messages on gender equality, prevention of child marriage, and consanguineous marriage were vividly conveyed to 80 girls and women members. Numerous thematic communication sessions on adolescent reproductive health, parenting skills, and children's rights have helped girls gain more knowledge to protect themselves and nurture their educational dreams. In particular, many members and women have improved their knowledge and skills in parenting education, reproductive health, prevention and control of domestic violence, prevention and control of human trafficking, drug abuse, and social vices.

Officials from the Women's Union of Cam Hiep commune are raising awareness among female members about the harmful effects of child marriage.

Simultaneously, the Women's Union of the commune also closely coordinates with the Youth Union, schools, and relevant sectors to promote awareness about population, family planning, prevention and control of domestic violence, and abuse of women and children. The methods of dissemination have also been expanded through Zalo groups, Facebook, and the union's fanpage, helping information reach a wider audience, especially young women, more quickly and effectively.

Initial effectiveness, spreading sustainable values.

Ms. Tran Thi Nhai, Chairwoman of the Women's Union of Cam Hiep commune, said that thanks to persistent and coordinated efforts, the prevention of child marriage and consanguineous marriage in the locality has achieved remarkable results. The awareness of the people, especially parents, has clearly changed. Many families who previously considered marrying off their children early are now proactively encouraging their children to continue their education and pursue long-term career paths. Community-based models such as the "Five No's, Three Cleanliness" Family Club, the "Building Happy Families" Club, and the "Trusted Address" Club are operating increasingly effectively and are being replicated, becoming a source of moral support for women and children facing difficulties. Many women's union members have become "amateur propagandists," persistently encouraging relatives and neighbors to change their perceptions, contributing to preventing child marriage within their own families.

These initial results not only contribute to reducing the risks of child marriage and consanguineous marriage but also spread a humane message about gender equality and the right to education and comprehensive development for girls. With a sense of responsibility and perseverance, the Women's Union of Cam Hiep commune will continue to be a pioneering force, accompanying the community on the journey to building a civilized, progressive, and happy society.
