From special forces soldier to successful businessman

In 1972, while a student at Hanoi University of Technology, Mr. Nguyen Ba Lan (born in 1954, from Ha Tinh province) volunteered to join the army. He was trained in the Special Forces and participated in battles on many fierce battlefields. After completing his military service, in 2003, he retired and began a completely new field: production and business. With the courage and determination of a soldier of "Uncle Ho," he established the 19-5 Construction and Installation Company Limited, operating in the fields of electrical installation, civil and industrial construction, and construction supervision consulting. Subsequently, he established the Nha Trang Investment Consulting, Electrical Engineering Design, Trade and Tourism Company and the Nam Khe Security Company.

Currently, the businesses he manages provide regular employment for 120-145 workers, the majority of whom are local residents and children of families receiving preferential treatment. As the Vice Chairman of the Provincial Association of Veteran Entrepreneurs, Mr. Nguyen Ba Lan actively connects and shares production and business experiences, encourages veteran entrepreneurs to unite and support each other's development, and participates in social welfare and camaraderie activities in the province. From 2019 to the present, despite the severe impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and market fluctuations, the businesses have maintained stable operations, with annual revenue ranging from 79 to over 100 billion VND, contributing 2.8 to 3.5 billion VND to the state budget annually; and the average income of employees reaching over 9.5-11 million VND per month.

Not only focusing on production and business efficiency, veteran Nguyen Ba Lan always pays attention to building the Party organization within the enterprise. As the Secretary of the Party Branch of 19-5 Construction Company Limited, he always considers Party building as the foundation for ensuring the sustainable development of the enterprise, linking production and business with strict adherence to the Party's guidelines, the State's policies and laws, and caring for the lives and legitimate rights of the workers. Established in 2004 with 3 Party members, the Party Branch of 19-5 Construction Company Limited has now grown to 11 members. For many years, the Party branch has been evaluated as having excellently fulfilled its nhiệm vụ, contributing to affirming its role as the political nucleus in the private enterprise.

Loyalty to comrades, responsibility to the community.

For Mr. Nguyen Ba Lan, doing business is inseparable from social responsibility. He believes that: "A business thrives not only on profit but also on reputation and responsibility to the community. That is also how former soldiers continue to contribute in peacetime." With that in mind, for many years, he has actively participated in social welfare, charity, and gratitude activities. Every year, he and his business have supported 140 to 150 Tet (Lunar New Year) gift packages for war veterans and people in difficult circumstances, each worth 500,000 - 600,000 VND; and contributed 40 to 50 million VND to the operating fund of the Truong Son - Ho Chi Minh Trail Veterans Association and visited members in difficult circumstances or suffering from illness.

Responding to the "Eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses" movement, in 2024, he supported the construction of a house of solidarity for a war veteran in difficult circumstances; in 2025, he provided 60 million VND to build a house for the family of a war veteran whose house was destroyed by fire in Ca Na commune... With his efforts in production, business, and contributions to social activities, Mr. Nguyen Ba Lan has received numerous commendations from the Central Committee of the Vietnam War Veterans Association, the Provincial People's Committee, and the Provincial War Veterans Association.

Mr. NGUYEN MINH HUNG - Chairman of the Veterans Association of Nha Trang Ward : Mr. Nguyen Ba Lan is an exemplary member, always upholding the qualities of a "Soldier of Uncle Ho" in all circumstances. Not only is he successful in business, creating jobs for many workers, but he also actively cares for his fellow veterans, making practical contributions to the association's and local movements.
