National online conference to deploy ethnic work in 2024

On the afternoon of January 2, in Hanoi, the Ethnic Committee held a national online conference to review ethnic work in 2023 and deploy tasks for 2024 to 53 localities in ethnic minority and mountainous areas.

Comrade Tran Luu Quang, member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Prime Minister attended and directed the conference. Comrade Hau A Lenh, member of the Party Central Committee, Minister, Chairman of the Ethnic Committee chaired the conference.

At Ninh Binh bridge, the conference was attended by leaders of the Provincial People's Committee Office, representatives of a number of relevant departments, branches, sectors and localities.

In recent times, with the strong direction of the Government, the strong participation of all levels and sectors and the efforts of ethnic minorities in synchronously implementing ethnic programs and policies, social security policies have contributed to socio-economic development, ensuring national defense and security in ethnic minority and mountainous areas in particular and the whole country in general.

Notably, the economic structure, crops and livestock have been shifted in a suitable direction. Many models, typical production and effective business cooperation have been created and replicated. Many localities have focused on improving product quality according to OCOP standards. Industries that create typical and key products of the region have received support from localities, including traditional occupations of ethnic minorities that have been preserved and promoted. The new rural construction movement has been promoted.

In 2023, some ethnic minority localities will have high GRDP growth rates such as: Bac Giang 13.45%, Hau Giang 12.27%, Ninh Thuan 9.4%, Phu Yen 9.16%, Binh Phuoc 8.34%... The lives of ethnic minorities are increasingly improving, the estimated poverty rate is about 17.82% (down 3.2%).

At the conference, leaders of several provinces and cities briefly reported on the results achieved in ethnic work in 2023 and proposed and recommended that ministries, branches, agencies, and central mass organizations create favorable conditions for localities to effectively implement ethnic work in 2024.

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang acknowledged and highly appreciated the results of ethnic work achieved in 2023. Entering 2024, the Deputy Prime Minister requested all levels and sectors to closely follow the direction of the Government, continue to innovate leadership, direction and management methods with the motto of being close and drastic to effectively implement the set goals and tasks. Strengthen the working coordination relationship between departments and units with the Ethnic Committees of localities. Promote international cooperation, seek support in terms of resources and techniques for the implementation and organization of ethnic programs and policies in ethnic minority and mountainous areas.

For localities, the Deputy Prime Minister suggested paying more attention to ethnic affairs. When implementing the National Target Programs, special attention should be paid to decentralization and assignment of tasks with specific responsibilities and powers. Arrange competent and experienced staff to effectively implement the programs. Promote propaganda, raise awareness and create livelihoods for ethnic minorities, gradually limit the waiting and dependence on the State.
