Conference on 50 years of national reunification: Affirming the historical stature of the great victory in spring 1975

On the morning of April 20, at the Ho Chi Minh City Academy of Officials, the National Scientific Conference on the theme "The Great Victory of Spring 1975 with the New Era of Development of the Vietnamese Nation" will officially take place.

The national scientific conference "The Great Victory of Spring 1975 with the New Era of Development of the Vietnamese Nation" was chaired by the Ministry of National Defense, in coordination with the Central Propaganda and Education Commission, the Ministry of Public Security , the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics and the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee to celebrate the 50th anniversary of national reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025).

The conference was held to affirm and clarify that the great victory of spring 1975 was a victory of the will to unify the country and the aspiration for peace of the Vietnamese people; a victory of Vietnamese mettle and intelligence and the strength of great national unity associated with the strength of the times in the resistance war against the US to save the country.

The workshop also provided new materials, profound scientific arguments and foundations to clarify the preparation process, the course of the campaign, the role and coordination of the forces participating in the campaign. It also drew valuable lessons from the resistance war against the US to save the country, and applied and promoted them in the cause of national construction and defense.

The Organizing Committee held a press conference to introduce the National Scientific Conference to celebrate the 50th anniversary of national reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025) on April 10.

With about 700 delegates and reporters attending, the conference includes 5 main contents:

Firstly, affirming the correct and wise guidelines, policies and leadership of the Party and President Ho Chi Minh - the decisive factor in all victories of the Vietnamese revolution; the will and determination to liberate the South and unify the country.

Second, clarify the historical context, international and domestic situations; the response actions of the US - Saigon government and army to the General Offensive and Uprising of our army and people.

Third, highlight the brave, resilient, ingenious and creative fighting spirit of the people and armed forces of the whole country, directly the army and people of the South, deepening the unique military art in the resistance war against the US to save the country.

Fourth, clarify the role of the great Northern rear and the great international support for the Vietnamese people in the resistance war against the US to save the country.

Fifth, evaluate the stature, historical significance, causes of victory and lessons learned in the resistance war against the US to save the country in general, and the 1975 Spring General Offensive and Uprising in particular; apply and promote in the cause of national construction and defense.

The Vietnam Institute of Defense History and Strategy, the standing body of the conference steering committee, presided over the careful preparation work. The conference had 125 articles including 119 presentations and 6 speeches and reports. After editing, the organizing committee sent 123 articles to the People's Army Publishing House to print the proceedings.

Before the conference, the organizing committee will carry out activities such as offering incense at the Ho Chi Minh Museum (HCMC branch), offering flowers at the statue of President Ho Chi Minh and giving gifts to 5 local policy families.

The workshop is expected to have the presence of senior leaders of the Party, State, National Assembly, representatives of central agencies, military, police, academies, leaders of Ho Chi Minh City through the periods and typical historical witnesses such as Major General Nguyen Ngoc Doanh, former Political Commissar of Regiment 141; Ms. Hoang Thi Khanh, former Captain of the Propaganda Armed Team of the Propaganda Department of the Saigon - Gia Dinh area, currently Head of the Liaison Committee of former political prisoners and prisoners of war of Ho Chi Minh City.

According to the organizers, all preparations have been carried out on schedule and with good quality. The conference is not only an opportunity to review the glorious history, but also an opportunity to arouse patriotism, national pride and determination to build the country in the period of integration and development.
