Field workshop on linking production of AP1 green hemp in Nho Quan district

On the afternoon of May 14, the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center (Department of Agriculture and Rural Development) coordinated with the Science Management Department (Department of Science and Technology) to organize a field workshop "Linking AP1 green hemp production in Nho Quan district".

Attending the workshop were leaders of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, representatives of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Nho Quan district and Quynh Luu commune.

Green hemp is a multi-purpose industrial plant. The bark is used as raw material for weaving high-quality fabrics. The leaves are used to make hemp cakes, as feed for livestock, poultry, and aquatic products. The core of the tree is used as raw material for paper production, as a substrate for growing mushrooms, and as organic fertilizer.

Green hemp has good resistance to sunlight and drought, is suitable for mountainous terrain and does not require complicated care. This plant is also less susceptible to pests and diseases, has a 10-year life cycle, and can be harvested 4-6 times a year.

Realizing the potential and advantages of green hemp, in July 2023, the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center coordinated to bring AP1 green hemp variety to plant in 3 communes of Nho Quan district with an area of about 18 hectares, of which 10 hectares are in Quynh Luu commune.

After nearly 1 year of care, with the guidance of the Agricultural Extension staff, the area of green hemp of the people has grown well and has been harvested. The estimated yield is 6 quintals of fiber husk/ha, with a selling price of 47 thousand VND/kg, equivalent to a revenue of over 28 million VND/ha. The products are contracted and purchased on-site by companies and businesses.

At the workshop, delegates shared techniques for planting and caring for AP1 hemp. At the same time, they exchanged market information and the possibility of expanding production on difficult lands.

With low input costs, simple care techniques and guaranteed product consumption, AP1 green hemp promises to bring high economic efficiency to farmers in Nho Quan district. Thereby contributing to the effective conversion of crop structure, improving people's lives, and at the same time opening up development directions in areas with similar soil conditions.
