Field workshop on production linkage of AP1 green ramie in Nho Quan district

On the afternoon of May 14th, the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center (Department of Agriculture and Rural Development) collaborated with the Science Management Department (Department of Science and Technology) to organize a field workshop on "Linking the production of AP1 green ramie in Nho Quan district".

Attending the workshop were leaders from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, representatives from the Agriculture and Rural Development Department of Nho Quan district and Quynh Luu commune.

The ramie plant is a multi-purpose industrial crop. Its bark is used as a raw material for weaving high-quality fabrics. Its leaves are used to make ramie cakes and as feed for livestock, poultry, and aquatic animals. The pith is used as a raw material for paper production, as a substrate for mushroom cultivation, and as organic fertilizer.

The green ramie plant is highly resistant to drought, well-suited to hilly terrain, and does not require complex care. It is also less susceptible to pests and diseases, has a 10-year lifespan, and yields 4-6 harvests per year.

Recognizing the potential and advantages of ramie, in July 2023, the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center coordinated the introduction of the AP1 ramie variety for cultivation in three communes of Nho Quan district, covering an area of approximately 18 hectares, including 10 hectares in Quynh Luu commune.

After nearly a year of care, with guidance from agricultural extension officers, the area planted with ramie by local people has developed well and is now ready for harvest. The estimated yield is 6 quintals of fiber bark per hectare, with a selling price of 47,000 VND/kg, equivalent to a revenue of over 28 million VND per hectare. The product is being purchased directly from the farm under signed contracts with various companies and businesses.

At the workshop, delegates shared techniques for planting and caring for AP1 ramie plants. They also exchanged information on the market and the potential for expanding production in challenging areas.

With low input costs, uncomplicated cultivation techniques, and guaranteed product purchase, the AP1 green ramie plant promises to bring high economic efficiency to farmers in Nho Quan district. This will contribute to effective crop restructuring, improve people's lives, and open up development opportunities in areas with similar soil conditions.
