Workshop on Asia and Pacific Economic Report

(MPI) - On November 18, 2024, the Ministry of Planning and Investment coordinated with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to organize a Workshop on the Asia-Pacific Economic Report to help Vietnam have an overview of the economic situation in the region. Attending the Workshop were representatives of the Ministry of Finance , the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the State Bank of Vietnam and units under the Ministry of Planning and Investment.

At the workshop, the two sides exchanged, discussed and clarified outstanding issues in Vietnam's socio -economic development in recent times; proposed viewpoints and solutions to strengthen and promote the development of Vietnam's pillar industries and sectors such as agriculture, industry, construction, services, etc.

Mr. Johannes Weigand, IMF economist, said that Vietnam's economy will recover strongly in the first half of 2024 and continue to maintain positive growth momentum; at the same time, he provided information on a number of economic management policies, forecasts on growth, inflation and investment capital flow trends in countries in the Asia- Pacific region.

The IMF acknowledged Vietnam's impressive development achievements in recent years, emphasizing that it will always be ready to support and assist Vietnam in policy consultation and monitoring, and make recommendations for Vietnam to build the most suitable roadmap.

Mr. Nguyen The Ngan, Director of the Department of Finance and Monetary Affairs, Ministry of Planning and Investment, thanked and highly appreciated the IMF's assessments, forecasts, and policy advice on the economic situation in the Asia-Pacific region and recommendations for Vietnam in the coming time; as well as the world's financial and monetary outlook after recent developments and their impact on Vietnam.

The Ministry of Planning and Investment acknowledges the IMF's recommendations, which are an important source of reference information for the policy-making process; and requests that the IMF continue to accompany and maintain dialogue activities and economic policy consultation for Vietnam in the coming time./.
