On the afternoon of April 18, in Da Nang, the Department of Environment ( Ministry of Agriculture and Environment of Vietnam) in collaboration with the Partnership for Environmental Management of the East Asian Sea (PEMSEA) launched a project on reducing pollution and maintaining environmental flows in East Asian seas through the implementation of integrated river basin management in ASEAN countries, funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) through the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). The project is implemented in 6 countries, in Vietnam, the project will be implemented from 2025-2027 with a total budget of 737,400 USD (equivalent to more than 18 billion VND), mainly in the Vu Gia - Thu Bon river basin and coastal waters of Da Nang city and Quang Nam province.
Speaking at the project launch ceremony, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Da Nang City Dang Quang Vinh highly appreciated the support from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, the Department of Environment, UNDP, GEF, PEMSEA and international partners in initiating and implementing this project. At the same time, he expressed his belief that the project will help strengthen the institutions and capacity of inter-regional and inter-sectoral environmental management; promote cooperation between localities in river basins and coastal areas; mobilize the participation of stakeholders, from authorities, businesses to communities.
At the same time, provide feasible technical and policy solutions to reduce pollution, protect water quality and maintain environmental flows, not only for the benefit of inland ecosystems but also for the sustainable development of East Asian seas.
