
WhiteHat forum quoted information from security expert Troy Hunt, saying that the total leaked data is about 3.5 terabytes in size.
The hackers used infostealer-type malware to harvest login credentials and credential stuffing lists. Notably, about 16.4 million of these email addresses had never appeared in any previous leaks.
Experts say this was not a direct attack on Gmail. The main cause was malware on user devices and the reuse of the same password for multiple services.
It is not excluded that hackers can take advantage of this information to log into bank accounts, cloud storage services or social networks using credential stuffing, seriously affecting users' information security.
Google has yet to make any official comment on the incident. Vietnamese security experts warn that careless account and password management can make users vulnerable to attacks. Most victims do not know their devices are infected with malware, and using the same password for multiple services makes it easier for hackers to exploit personal information on multiple platforms.
